Organized by the Environmental Club, MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe
Date: 23 March 2025
Time: 11:00 AM
Venue: College Campus and Surrounding Areas

The Environmental Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a “Providing Water for Birds During Summer” Initiative on 23rd March 2025 at 11:00 AM. The programme aimed to support birdlife during the harsh summer season by ensuring access to clean drinking water and raising awareness on the importance of protecting local wildlife.

The event began with a brief introduction on the challenges faced by birds during summer, including dehydration, heat stress, and scarcity of natural water sources. Students were encouraged to play an active role in safeguarding biodiversity and supporting ecological balance.

As part of the initiative, students placed clay pots and water bowls in various areas of the campus and its surroundings. The activity highlighted:

  • Importance of providing accessible water sources for birds

  • Need to support wildlife during extreme weather conditions

  • Role of humans in promoting ecological harmony

  • Encouraging compassion and environmental responsibility

Participants worked collaboratively to identify shaded spots, fill water containers, and ensure they were stable and safe for birds. The coordinators also discussed the importance of regularly cleaning and refilling water pots to maintain hygiene and prevent mosquito breeding.

Students expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction in contributing to a meaningful cause that directly supports the local ecosystem. The initiative inspired many to continue the practice at home and in their neighbourhoods.

The programme concluded with a pledge to protect wildlife and undertake small but impactful actions to support nature, especially during challenging climate conditions.

The “Providing Water for Birds During Summer” Initiative was a thoughtful and impactful programme, reflecting the Environmental Club’s commitment to promoting environmental compassion, sustainability, and community engagement.
