 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS CELEBRATION

The Eco Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe celebrated the International Day of Forests on 21st March 2025 at 10:40 AM. The programme aimed to highlight the vital role forests play in sustaining life on Earth and to inspire students to participate in conservation efforts.

The event began with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the theme of International Day of Forests and the global significance of protecting forest ecosystems. Students were made aware of how forests contribute to biodiversity, climate regulation, soil conservation, and the well-being of communities.

Awareness Session

A resource person delivered an insightful presentation on:

  • Importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance

  • Threats faced by forests, including deforestation, wildfires, and climate change

  • Need for reforestation and afforestation

  • Role of individuals and communities in forest protection

The session encouraged students to reflect on their environmental responsibilities.

Tree Care and Campus Greening Activity

As part of the celebration, students participated in maintaining the plants and trees on the campus by:

  • Watering existing saplings

  • Removing weeds

  • Adding organic manure

  • Cleaning the surroundings of green areas

This activity helped students understand the importance of nurturing plants beyond just planting them.

Poster and Slogan Display

Students created posters and slogans emphasizing forest conservation messages such as:

  • “Protect Forests, Protect Life”

  • “Our Future Depends on Forests”

  • “Grow More Trees for a Greener Planet”

Group Reflection

Participants shared their observations and ideas on how forest conservation efforts can be strengthened at the community and institutional level.

The programme concluded with a pledge to conserve forests, reduce paper waste, and promote tree planting initiatives. Faculty coordinators encouraged students to take small, consistent steps towards protecting the environment.

The International Day of Forests Celebration was an enriching and meaningful event, demonstrating the Eco Club’s commitment to creating awareness, promoting greenery, and fostering environmental responsibility among students.
