MINDFUL COOKING ACTIVITY

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Mindful Cooking activity on 12th March 2025 at 11:00 AM with the aim of promoting mental well-being, stress reduction, and the practice of mindfulness through a creative and engaging hands-on experience. The programme was designed to help students understand the importance of being present in the moment while performing everyday activities.
The programme began with a brief introduction on the concept of mindfulness and its relevance to mental health. Students were guided to focus on awareness, calmness, and attention while preparing food. They were encouraged to observe each step of the cooking process carefully, including handling ingredients, noticing textures, aromas, colours, and movements, and experiencing the joy of mindful participation.
Students worked together to prepare simple and healthy dishes in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. The activity emphasized patience, teamwork, and conscious action. Participants reported feeling relaxed, refreshed, and emotionally balanced as they engaged in the mindful cooking process. The session helped students understand how routine activities can become therapeutic when performed with awareness and intention.
Faculty coordinators guided the students throughout the activity and highlighted how mindful practices like cooking can help reduce anxiety, improve concentration, and enhance emotional regulation. The event also encouraged healthy lifestyle habits and gratitude for food and shared experiences.
The programme concluded with a reflection session where students shared their feelings and learning experiences. Many expressed that the activity helped them feel calm, connected, and positive. The Mindful Cooking programme was a meaningful and refreshing initiative, reflecting the Mental Health and Wellbeing Club’s commitment to promoting holistic well-being, self-care practices, and emotional awareness among students.
