INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS CELEBRATION

The Eco Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe celebrated the International Day of Forests on 21st March 2025 at 10:20 AM with the objective of raising awareness about the importance of forests and encouraging students to actively participate in forest conservation efforts.
The programme began with a welcome address, followed by an introduction that highlighted the global significance of the International Day of Forests. Students were informed about how forests play a crucial role in sustaining biodiversity, regulating climate, conserving soil, and supporting communities worldwide.
Awareness Session
A resource person delivered an engaging talk that covered:

The ecological and social importance of forests

Causes and consequences of deforestation

The role of afforestation and reforestation
-
How individuals can contribute to forest conservation
The presentation encouraged students to reflect on their environmental responsibilities and the need for urgent global action.
Tree Care Activity
As part of the celebration, students participated in nurturing the trees and plants on the campus by:

Watering existing saplings

Removing weeds
-
Applying organic manure
-
Cleaning the surroundings of green areas
This activity helped students understand the importance of long-term care in maintaining healthy green spaces.
Poster and Slogan Display
Students prepared posters and slogans promoting forest conservation, with messages such as:

“A Greener Earth Begins with Us”

“Forests Are the Lungs of the Planet”
The colourful visuals added to the awareness atmosphere and attracted attention across the campus.
Group Reflection Session
In a short reflection activity, participants shared their thoughts on the importance of forests and discussed how small collective efforts can create a lasting positive impact.
The programme concluded with a pledge ceremony where students committed to reducing paper waste, planting trees, and spreading awareness on forest conservation.
The International Day of Forests Celebration was a meaningful and inspiring initiative, demonstrating the Eco Club’s dedication to promoting environmental understanding, sustainability, and active student involvement.
