The Mental Health and Well-Being Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Movie Screening on 29th March 2025 at 2:30 PM with the aim of promoting emotional awareness, self-reflection, and positive mental health through cinema. The initiative sought to help students understand mental health themes depicted in films and to provide a relaxed, supportive environment for learning and discussion.
The programme began with a brief introduction explaining the purpose of the screening and the relevance of cinema as a tool for mental health education. Faculty coordinators highlighted how films can influence emotional understanding, empathy, resilience, and social connectedness by portraying real-life challenges and coping strategies.
Students watched the selected film attentively, observing the characters’ emotional journeys, psychological struggles, interpersonal relationships, and moments of growth. The film provided meaningful insights into mental well-being, self-acceptance, communication, and the importance of seeking support during difficult times. The storyline encouraged viewers to reflect on their own experiences and develop a more compassionate perspective toward others.
Following the screening, a discussion session was held where students shared their observations and interpretations. They discussed themes related to stress, anxiety, self-confidence, support systems, and emotional resilience. Faculty members guided the conversation, reinforcing the importance of mental health awareness and encouraging students to adopt healthy coping mechanisms.
The event created a safe and positive space for open dialogue, allowing students to express their thoughts freely and relate the film’s message to real-life mental health concerns. Participants appreciated the opportunity to learn through an engaging and relatable medium.
The programme concluded with words of appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to prioritize emotional well-being and continue participating in activities that promote positive mental health. The Movie Screening was a meaningful and impactful initiative, reflecting the Mental Health and Well-Being Club’s commitment to fostering awareness, empathy, and holistic growth among students.
