The MAHE Co-Operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, in association with Chothavoor H S S, Champad, organized a session on Teaching about Local history and land marks on October 24 at 2.30 pm. The resource person for the event was Arunima S , a 2nd year B.Ed. student from MCCTE.
The main objective of this session was to help students understand the importance of local history and to develop awareness about the famous landmarks in their surroundings. The session aimed to encourage students to appreciate their cultural heritage and take pride in their locality.
During the class, she explained the meaning of local history and discussed how it connects people to their roots. Important landmarks such as historical buildings, temples, monuments, rivers, and heritage sites from the nearby area were introduced with the help of pictures and maps. The students were also told about the stories and events associated with each place to make the lesson more interesting.
To make the session more engaging, she conducted an activity where students prepared a small chart or short note about a landmark they had visited or heard about. This activity helped students relate the topic to their own experiences and understand the value of preserving historical places.
Students actively participated and shared their knowledge about different local landmarks. Their enthusiasm showed a deep sense of curiosity and connection with their community’s history.
Overall, the class was informative, interactive, and inspiring. It helped students gain knowledge about their local area and motivated them to respect and protect their cultural and historical heritage.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Sreelatha K (Principal, MCCTE), Ms. Revathy M (IQAC Coordinator, MCCTE), and Jayarajan ( Head Master, Chothavoor H S S).
