World poetry day

   WORLD POETRY DAY

On Behalf of World poetry day celebrated on 21st March, the English association of the Mahe Co-operative college of teacher education conducted a talk on the importance of poetry and the effects of poetry in various fields.

It was generally celebrated in October, but in the 20th century the world community celebrated it on the 15th, the birthday of Virgil, the Roman epic poet and poet laureate under Augustus. The tradition to keep an October date for national or international poetry day celebrations still holds in many countries.

The United Kingdom generally uses the first Thursday in October, but elsewhere a different October, or even sometimes a November date, is celebrated.Poetry is a beautiful form of expression. No other type of literature creates such a plethora of feelings and emotions as the abstraction of poetry. The earliest poetry is believed to have surfaced with the "Epic of Gilgamesh" some time during 2000 B.C., but it is likely that poetry existed even before the spread of literacy. Different types of sonnets to rap lyrics, the core purpose of poetry remains the same - to explore the human condition and invoke emotion through words. Poetry resonates with the existential dilemmas of mankind, exhuming ideas from deep within.

World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21, celebrating a linguistic expression that people from all cultures can identify with. Poetry can be found in the history of every nation, and brings us together under shared values and common humanity. The most basic of poems have the power to stir dialogue.

The day was proposed and adopted by UNESCO in 1999, on the occasion of its 30th General Conference held in Paris to "give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements." The organization hoped to inspire the celebration of poetry all over the world, preserve endangered languages, and stimulate poetic expression through this day. Poets, both past and present, are honored, and oral traditions of reciting poetry are revived. Reading, writing, and teaching poetry are encouraged, and converged with other mediums of expression such as music, dance, painting, and more.

The 2021 World Poetry Day in the UNESCO headquarters in Paris was dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Macedonian poet, writer, literary translator and linguistic scholar Blaže Koneski. At the same time, the British poet Carol Ann Duffy was announced as the recipient of the Golden Wreath Award of the Struga Poetry Evenings for 2021.

World Consumer Rights Day

Report on World Consumer Rights Day

Date: March 15, 2025

Venue: College Auditorium

Theme for 2025: "Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers"

On March 15, 2025, our college observed World Consumer Rights Day with enthusiasm and awareness. This day, celebrated annually across the globe, aims to educate people about their consumer rights and ensure that they are treated fairly in the marketplace. The day also serves as a reminder for consumers to make informed decisions while purchasing goods and services.

The significance of this day dates back to 1962 when John F. Kennedy, the former President of the United States, emphasized the importance of consumer protection. Later, in 1983, Consumers International declared March 15 as World Consumer Rights Day to highlight global concerns regarding consumer rights and safety.

During the assembly, the importance of the six fundamental consumer rights was highlighted. These include the Right to Safety, ensuring protection against hazardous goods; the Right to Information, providing accurate product details; and the Right to Choice, allowing access to a variety of quality goods. Additionally, the Right to be Heard guarantees that consumer grievances are addressed, while the Right to Seek Redressal provides compensation for unfair practices. Lastly, the Right to Consumer Education promotes awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities.

The theme for 2025, "Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers," was emphasized to raise awareness about the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in consumer interactions. The theme highlights the need for AI to operate ethically and transparently to protect consumer interests in the digital age.

To mark the occasion, several activities were conducted. A speech competition allowed students to express their thoughts on consumer rights and AI ethics. Posters and slogans were displayed across the school, promoting awareness about the theme. A quiz on consumer rights was also organized, with winners receiving certificates in recognition of their knowledge and participation.

In conclusion, the observance of World Consumer Rights Day was a meaningful event that helped students understand the importance of being informed and vigilant consumers. By exercising their rights and responsibilities, they can contribute to creating a fair and safe marketplace. The event served as a reminder that awareness and education empower consumers to make better decisions and protect their interests.

Thank you.
