WORLD STATISTICS DAY

World Statistics Day is celebrated every 5 years on October 20th. The United Nations General Assembly designated October 20, 2010, as the first World Statistics Day, recognizing the importance of statistics in informed decision-making and policy implementation.

The objectives are;

Promoting awareness of the role of statistics in economic and social development.

Recognizing the importance of reliable and accurate statistical data.

Encouraging cooperation and collaboration among national and international statistical agencies.

The theme of 2020 was “Connecting the World with Data We Can Trust”.

The World Statistical Day program was conducted by Mathematics department on 22 October 2024 and led by Anusree K K. Anusree delivered a speech on the importance of celebrating Statistics Day, the role of Statisticians, the importance of data, the UN’s Data Strategy and also the international community can work with the United Nations to enable all countries to meet their statistical needs.
