Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, observed Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2, 2024, with a focus on environmental awareness and community service. The event featured two primary activities: cleaning the college campus and cleaning the Mahe Walkway, particularly the Hillock (Moopan Kunn).
The first-year B.Ed. students took the initiative to clean the Hillock at Mahe Walkway. Armed with cleaning tools, the students enthusiastically worked together to ensure the area was free of litter and debris, embodying the spirit of Gandhiji’s teachings on cleanliness and service to the community.
Meanwhile, second-year B.Ed. students stayed at the college campus, where they took up the responsibility of cleaning the campus grounds. They also prepared traditional food items—kappa, kanji, and coffee—for all participants.
The principal of the college delivered a brief speech, highlighting the importance of Gandhiji’s ideals in today’s context. Following her address, she planted a new sapling on the campus, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and the college’s commitment to environmental care. Teachers and students gathered to support the tree-planting activity.
Upon completing their cleaning duties, the first-year students returned to the campus, where they were served refreshments and the traditional food prepared by the second-year students.
The event garnered attention from the local media, who covered the efforts of the students and staff, while local leaders appreciated the college's initiative in observing Gandhi Jayanthi through such meaningful activities.
