The Environmental Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a College Clean-Up Initiative on 2nd October 2024 at 10:20 AM as part of its commitment to promoting cleanliness, environmental awareness, and community responsibility. The event was organized in connection with Gandhi Jayanti, emphasizing the values of cleanliness and public hygiene advocated by Mahatma Gandhi.

The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the purpose of the initiative and the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy campus environment. Students were divided into teams and equipped with gloves, cleaning tools, and waste collection bags.

Participants actively engaged in cleaning various areas of the campus, including:

  • Classrooms and corridors

  • College ground and garden area

  • Common spaces and pathways

  • Waste collection and proper segregation

The activity emphasized:

  • Importance of a litter-free environment

  • Waste segregation practices

  • Personal responsibility in maintaining cleanliness

  • Sustainable waste management habits

Under the supervision of faculty coordinators, students worked enthusiastically, demonstrating teamwork, commitment, and a strong sense of social responsibility. The clean-up drive significantly improved the appearance and hygiene of the campus, creating a more pleasant learning environment.

The programme concluded with a short reflection session where students shared their experiences and pledged to uphold cleanliness both on and off campus.

The College Clean-Up Initiative was a meaningful and impactful programme, reinforcing the Environmental Club’s mission to promote eco-friendly practices, cleanliness, and civic responsibility within the college community.
