Breast Cancer Awareness Day, also known as National Breast Cancer Awareness Day, is observed annually on October 21 in the United States, but the entire month of October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The main goals of Breast Cancer Awareness Month are:

EDUCATION: To educate people about breast cancer risks, symptoms, and treatment options

EARLY DETECTION: To emphasize the importance of early detection through regular screenings and self-exams.

RESEARCH: To raise funds for breast cancer research and promote advancements in treatment and diagnosis.

SUPPORT: To show support for breast cancer survivors, patients, and their families.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Day program was organized by the Mathematics department on 16th October 2024 and led by Soorya Sugathan K. Soorya delivered an awareness speech about Breast Cancer and she highlights the global efforts to reduce the stigma around the breast cancer and raise awareness of its symptoms, screening, and need for comprehensive treatment.

She also included the risk factors that some breast cancers are caused by genetic changes passed down in families. Other risk factors include being overweight, not being physically active, drinking alcohol, and taking hormone replacement therapy or birth control pills.
