INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER RISK REDUCTION

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed annually on October 13. This day is dedicated to promoting global awareness and action to disaster risk and losses, and to celebrate achievements in disaster risk reduction.

The day was first observed in 1989, after the United Nations General Assembly declared October 13 as the International Day for Risk Reduction. 

Its objectives are;

Raise awareness about disaster risk reduction.

Promote disaster risk reduction activities.

Encourage governments, communities and individuals to take action.

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction program was conducted by Mathematics department on 16 October 2024 and led by Anjana OK. Anjana delivered a speech on the importance of celebrating this day. Also she included some important subjects in her speech like understanding disaster risk, strengthening disaster risk governance, investing in disaster risk reduction, enhancing disaster preparedness, building back better, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility and strengthening international cooperation.
