TEACHING ABOUT LOCAL HISTORY AND LANDMARKS

 Teaching About Local History and Landmarks

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, in association with Iringannur Higher Secondary School, organized an Awareness Programme on Teaching About Local History and Landmarks on 17th October 2025 at 4:15 p.m. at IHSS.

The session was led by Ms. Fathimath Hasna A.K, Second Year B.Ed. student, MCCTE, who served as the Resource Person. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about the importance of learning and teaching local history and the significance of preserving local landmarks.

The resource person emphasized how local history helps students connect with their community, understand cultural heritage, and develop a sense of identity and belonging. She discussed different teaching methods and activities that can make lessons about local history more engaging and meaningful.

The session also highlighted the role of teachers in encouraging students to explore their surroundings and appreciate the historical and cultural importance of their own localities. Students actively participated in the interactive discussion and shared their knowledge about nearby landmarks.

The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. Sreelatha K (Principal, MCCTE), Ms. Revathy M (Assistant Professor, MCCTE), and Ms. Sindhu Jayaraj (Principal, IHSS).

Overall, the session was informative and inspiring, encouraging students to value their local history and take pride in their cultural heritage.
