TEACHING ABOUT LOCAL HISTORY AND LANDMARK-ATHIRA SUNIL,ANJANA DAS

The MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, in association with GVHSS Koduvally and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a special session titled “Teaching about Local History and Landmark.” The event was held on 17th October 2025 at 1:45 PM at GVHSS Koduvally. The session was led by two enthusiastic and talented second-year B.Ed students from MCCTE, Mahe - Ms. Athira Sunil P and Ms. Anjana Das.

The main objective of the programme was to emphasize the importance of understanding and teaching local history and landmarks as an integral part of social science education. It aimed to make students and teachers aware of their local heritage, fostering a deeper connection to their roots and community identity.

The session highlighted the quote "The people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.” This quote encapsulated the spirit of the event — encouraging learners to value local heritage and integrate it into educational practices.

The successful organization of the event was ensured by the General Co-ordinator Dr. Sreelatha K (Principal, MCCTE), IQAC Co-ordinator: Ms. Revathy M (Assistant Professor, MCCTE), Programme Co-ordinator: Ms. Smitha (Teacher, GVHSS Koduvally)

The session effectively conveyed the significance of the programme through clear design, appropriate visuals, and inspiring content. The collaborative effort between the teacher education college and the school reflects a meaningful initiative to promote experiential and community-based learning.
