 “PLASTIC-FREE CAMPUS” CAMPAIGN

The Environmental Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe organized a “Plastic-Free Campus” Campaign on 28th January 2025 at 11:30 AM with the objective of reducing plastic usage, promoting eco-friendly alternatives, and creating a clean and sustainable learning environment.

The programme began with a welcome address followed by an awareness talk on the harmful effects of single-use plastics on the environment, wildlife, and human health. Students were encouraged to adopt responsible habits and contribute to building a plastic-free campus.

As part of the campaign, various activities were conducted, including:

  • Awareness Drive:
    Students educated peers about the environmental hazards of plastic pollution and advocated the use of cloth bags, metal bottles, and biodegradable materials.

  • Campus Cleaning:
    Participants actively collected plastic waste from classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and common areas, emphasizing the importance of proper waste segregation.

  • Anti-Plastic Posters and Slogans:
    Creative posters and awareness placards were displayed across the campus, highlighting messages such as “Say No to Plastic,” “Choose Reusable,” and “Protect Our Planet.”

  • Distribution of Eco-Friendly Alternatives:
    Cloth bags and reusable water bottles were promoted as environmentally friendly substitutes for single-use plastic items.

The campaign received enthusiastic participation from students and staff, creating a strong sense of collective responsibility. Coordinators ensured proper disposal of collected plastic waste and emphasized continuous monitoring to maintain a plastic-free environment.

The programme concluded with a pledge taken by all participants to reduce plastic usage, spread environmental awareness, and uphold the mission of a plastic-free campus.

The “Plastic-Free Campus” Campaign was a highly impactful and motivating initiative, demonstrating the Environmental Club’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable campus practices.
