 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES – DEBATE COMPETITION

The Health Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Debate Competition on 3rd January 2025 at 2:30 PM in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The programme aimed to create awareness about disability rights, inclusion, accessibility, and the importance of building a supportive and equitable society.

The session began with a brief introduction on the significance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and its global objective of promoting understanding and support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Students participated in the debate with great enthusiasm, presenting viewpoints on themes related to:

  • Inclusion and accessibility in education

  • The role of society in supporting persons with disabilities

  • Policies and initiatives for empowerment

  • Breaking stereotypes and promoting equal opportunities

Participants showcased strong communication skills, critical thinking, and sensitivity towards the topic. The debate encouraged students to reflect on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the collective responsibility to foster inclusive environments.

The judging panel evaluated the participants based on clarity of arguments, relevance, presentation skills, rebuttals, and overall impact. The competition concluded with the announcement of winners and appreciation for all speakers.

The event successfully deepened awareness and encouraged empathetic perspectives among students. The International Day of Disabled Persons – Debate Competition reaffirmed the Health Club’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, respect, and social responsibility within the campus community.
