TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY

The Nature Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Tree Planting Activity on 17th January 2025 at 10:00 AM as part of its efforts to promote environmental conservation, increase green cover, and encourage students to take part in eco-friendly initiatives.
The programme began with a welcome address followed by a brief introduction on the importance of tree planting in combating climate change, reducing carbon footprint, supporting biodiversity, and improving air quality. Students were motivated to understand their role in protecting the environment through small yet impactful actions.
Under the guidance of faculty coordinators, students actively participated in planting various saplings across the college campus. Tasks undertaken by participants included:

Preparing the soil and digging pits

Planting saplings of native and shade-giving tree species

Watering and nurturing the newly planted trees

Surrounding plants with protective coverings to ensure healthy growth
Throughout the activity, students learned about:

The ecological importance of trees

Ways to care for young plants

Benefits of native tree species for local biodiversity

The long-term impact of afforestation efforts
The campus environment visibly improved with the addition of new saplings, creating a greener and more vibrant atmosphere.
The programme concluded with a reflection session where students expressed their satisfaction in contributing to environmental protection. Coordinators encouraged them to continue nurturing the planted trees and to participate in similar sustainability efforts.
