MENTAL HEALTH DEVELOPMENT – GUIDANCE SESSION

The Psychology Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Mental Health Development Guidance Session on 22nd January 2025 at 10:00 AM with the objective of promoting emotional well-being, enhancing self-awareness, and equipping students with essential coping skills. The session aimed to help students better understand mental health and the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy mind.
The programme began with an introduction to the concept of mental health, highlighting its significance in academic performance, personal relationships, and overall quality of life. A resource person led the session, discussing key topics such as stress management, emotional regulation, self-esteem, mindfulness, and the importance of seeking support when needed. Real-life examples and simple psychological strategies were shared to make the session relatable and practical.
Students actively participated by sharing their experiences, asking questions, and engaging in short reflective activities. The session encouraged them to identify signs of emotional overload, understand their triggers, and practise healthy habits such as deep breathing, journaling, time management, and positive self-talk. The resource person emphasized the need to break stigma around mental health and encouraged students to create a supportive environment for themselves and their peers.
The guidance session also highlighted the importance of self-care routines, maintaining balanced lifestyles, and building resilience to face academic and personal challenges. Students expressed that the session helped them gain clarity on how to manage stress and improve their mental well-being.
The programme concluded with words of appreciation from the coordinators, who urged students to prioritise their mental health and apply the strategies learned in daily life.
