As part of the One Day Seminar series conducted on 11th September 2025, the third session titled “Breaking the Silence: Understanding Menstrual Health” addressed the crucial need for open conversations around menstruation and reproductive health.
The session was led by Dr. Tharani, House Surgeon at RGAMC&H, Mahe, who passionately engaged the audience on the topic of menstrual health awareness, its biological basis, and its importance in fostering well-being and confidence among adolescent girls and women.
Dr. Tharani stressed how silence and stigma surrounding menstruation often lead to misinformation, poor hygiene practices, and psychological stress. The session aimed to eliminate these barriers by promoting a healthy, fact-based understanding of the menstrual cycle and hygiene practices. The speaker also addressed how cultural taboos and societal expectations continue to limit discussions around menstruation and emphasized the role of teachers in breaking this silence in schools and communities.
The audience, comprising student-teachers and faculty members, responded with deep interest. Many expressed that the session gave them a new perspective on how to approach the topic sensitively yet assertively in their future classrooms.
The session was organized under the effective leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K., Principal of MCCTE (General Coordinator), and Ms. Revathy Madhusoodanan, Assistant Professor and IQAC Coordinator, whose coordination was instrumental in ensuring the smooth conduct of all sessions in the seminar.
