GARDENING ACTIVITY

The Nature Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Gardening Activity on 13th February 2025 at 10:30 AM with the aim of fostering environmental awareness, promoting greenery on the campus, and encouraging students to appreciate the value of nature and sustainable practices.

The programme began with a warm welcome and an introduction to the purpose of the activity. Students were briefed on the importance of gardening in enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and creating a pleasant and eco-friendly campus environment.

Participants engaged in various hands-on gardening tasks, including:

  • Preparing soil and clearing weeds

  • Planting saplings and flowering plants

  • Watering and nourishing existing garden beds

  • Arranging pots and maintaining the green spaces

  • Learning basic gardening techniques and plant care

Students worked collaboratively, demonstrating enthusiasm, teamwork, and responsibility in caring for the plants. Faculty coordinators guided them on proper planting methods, the significance of each plant species, and the long-term benefits of maintaining greenery.

The activity also highlighted:

  • Importance of conserving nature

  • Role of plants in maintaining ecological balance

  • Benefits of gardening for mental well-being

  • Encouraging a sense of ownership and environmental stewardship among students

By the end of the session, the campus garden looked refreshed and enriched with new plants, contributing to a greener and more vibrant environment.

The programme concluded with a short reflection session, where students shared their experiences and expressed their commitment to continuing eco-friendly practices.

The Gardening Activity was a successful and enriching initiative, reflecting the Nature Club’s dedication to promoting environmental responsibility, hands-on learning, and love for nature among students.
