The Environmental Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Public Area Cleaning Programme on 22nd April 2025 at 4:00 PM as part of its commitment to environmental protection and community cleanliness.

The programme began with a brief introduction to the importance of maintaining clean public spaces and the collective responsibility of citizens in safeguarding the environment. Students were divided into teams and provided with gloves, waste bags, and necessary cleaning equipment.

Participants actively engaged in cleaning the designated public area, removing plastic waste, paper litter, and other debris. The activity emphasized:

  • Proper waste segregation (biodegradable and non-biodegradable)

  • Reducing the use of single-use plastics

  • Community involvement in environmental sustainability

  • Importance of cleanliness for public health

The cleaning activity not only improved the appearance of the public space but also raised awareness among local residents about the significance of keeping the environment clean. Students displayed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and a strong sense of social responsibility throughout the programme.

The coordinators ensured safety precautions and guided students effectively in completing the activity. The programme concluded with a short reflection session where participants shared their experiences and pledged to continue contributing to environmental conservation.

The Public Area Cleaning Programme was a meaningful and impactful initiative, reflecting the Environmental Club’s dedication to promoting cleanliness, awareness, and sustainable living within and beyond the campus community.
