The Mental Health and Wellbeing Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Pet Therapy Programme on 22nd April 2025 at 3:00 PM with the objective of promoting emotional well-being, reducing stress, and creating a joyful and relaxing atmosphere for students through positive interaction with animals. The programme aimed to highlight the therapeutic benefits of human–animal bonding in supporting mental health.
The session began with a brief introduction on the concept of pet therapy and its role in reducing anxiety, enhancing mood, and improving emotional balance. Students were informed about how interaction with animals can help in managing stress, loneliness, and emotional fatigue. The friendly and calm nature of the pets instantly created a warm and comforting environment.
Students interacted with the pets by feeding, gently petting, and spending quality time with them. These simple yet meaningful interactions brought smiles, laughter, and a sense of relaxation among participants. Many students expressed that the presence of the animals made them feel calm, happy, and emotionally refreshed. The activity encouraged compassion, kindness, and emotional connection.
Faculty coordinators guided the students on treating animals with care and respect and emphasized the importance of empathy not only toward humans but also toward all living beings. The programme also promoted responsibility and gentle behaviour while interacting with animals.
At the end of the session, students shared their experiences and feelings, expressing that the activity helped them feel lighter, stress-free, and emotionally uplifted. The programme concluded with appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to engage in positive and healthy activities that support mental well-being.
The Pet Therapy Programme was a joyful and meaningful initiative, reflecting the Mental Health and Wellbeing Club’s commitment to promoting emotional health, compassion, and holistic well-being among students.
