ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

The De-Addiction Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted an Essay Writing Competition on 5th April 2025 at 10:00 AM as part of its awareness initiatives to educate students on the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote reflective thinking on preventive measures.

The programme began with a welcome address, followed by instructions about the competition guidelines. Students were encouraged to articulate their thoughts, insights, and concerns about substance abuse in a structured and meaningful manner.

Participants wrote essays on themes such as:

  • Consequences of drug abuse on individuals and society

  • Role of education in preventing addiction

  • Impact of peer pressure and ways to resist it

  • Healthy lifestyle choices as alternatives to substance use

  • Importance of awareness campaigns in building a drug-free community

The competition allowed students to explore the topic deeply, express their viewpoints, and propose solutions for combating drug addiction. Their essays reflected creativity, critical thinking, and strong awareness of social responsibility.

Entries were evaluated by the judging panel based on:

  • Clarity of ideas

  • Relevance to the theme

  • Creativity and originality

  • Structure, coherence, and language quality

  • Effectiveness of message conveyed

The programme concluded with the announcement of winners and appreciation for the effort and participation of all contestants. Faculty coordinators praised the students for their thoughtful contributions and emphasized the importance of continued engagement in anti-drug initiatives.

The Essay Writing Competition was a meaningful and insightful initiative, reinforcing the De-Addiction Club’s mission to promote awareness, encourage reflective thinking, and inspire students to advocate for a drug-free society.
