PSYCHOLOGICAL GAME – “PI VALUE MEMORIZATION”
Organized by the Psychology Club, MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe
Date: 18 November 2024
Time: 11:00 AM
The Psychology Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted an engaging psychological game titled “Pi Value Memorization” on 18th November 2024 at 11:00 AM. The activity was designed to enhance students’ cognitive abilities, particularly memory retention, concentration, and pattern recognition, through a fun and intellectually stimulating challenge.
The session began with a short introduction about the psychological processes involved in memory, such as encoding, storage, retrieval, and the role of mnemonics in improving recall. Students were then encouraged to memorize as many decimal places of the mathematical constant π (pi) as possible within the given time frame. Techniques such as chunking, visualization, association, and rhythm-based memorization were explained to help participants improve their performance.
Students enthusiastically participated, demonstrating focus, creativity, and competitive spirit. Many attempted innovative mnemonic strategies to memorize long sequences of numbers, while others relied on repetition and pattern grouping. The activity created an energetic and enjoyable environment, motivating students to challenge themselves and explore the capabilities of their memory.
After the memorization phase, participants took turns reciting the digits of pi they had memorized. The process highlighted individual differences in memory strategies, allowing students to learn from one another. Faculty members appreciated the effort and encouraged students to adopt scientifically proven memory techniques in their academic pursuits.
The activity reinforced the importance of cognitive training and self-awareness in learning. It also emphasized how psychology offers practical tools for enhancing mental performance. The programme concluded with appreciation for all participants and acknowledgment of those who demonstrated exceptional recall.
The Pi Value Memorization game was a successful and engaging initiative, reflecting the Psychology Club’s commitment to promoting cognitive development, scientific curiosity, and interactive learning among students.
