The Tour Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Heritage Walk on 21st November 2024 at 8:30 AM with the objective of creating awareness about local history, culture, and heritage while providing students with experiential learning beyond the classroom. The programme aimed to help students understand the historical significance of Mahe and appreciate its rich cultural legacy.

The walk began early in the morning with an introductory briefing on the importance of heritage conservation and the historical background of Mahe. Students were guided through important heritage locations where they learned about colonial architecture, cultural landmarks, religious harmony, and the historical events associated with the region. Resource persons and faculty members explained the historical relevance of each site in a clear and engaging manner.

Students actively observed the architectural styles, inscriptions, and cultural elements present at the heritage sites. They showed keen interest by asking questions and engaging in discussions about the evolution of Mahe’s social, political, and cultural life. The walk helped students connect theoretical knowledge with real-life historical evidence.

The programme also emphasized the importance of preserving heritage for future generations and encouraged students to become responsible citizens who respect and protect cultural assets. The calm morning environment and guided exploration created a meaningful and reflective learning experience for all participants.

Students expressed that the heritage walk helped them gain a deeper understanding of local history and cultural identity. Faculty members appreciated the students’ discipline, curiosity, and active participation throughout the programme.

The programme concluded with words of appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to continue exploring history through experiential learning activities. The Heritage Walk was a meaningful and successful initiative, reflecting the Tour Club’s commitment to promoting cultural awareness, historical understanding, and educational enrichment among students.
