International Day of Older persons.

 International Day of Older persons.

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on October 1, the Department of Biological Science at MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education organized a meaningful program aimed at highlighting the contributions, needs, and rights of the elderly in society.

The event commenced with a speech by Devananda, a student of the department, who addressed the importance of valuing older generations and ensuring their inclusion in all aspects of life. In her speech, she emphasized the challenges faced by older persons, such as loneliness, health issues, and lack of support, while also acknowledging their wisdom, experience, and invaluable role in family and community life.

The program was part of the college's broader initiative to instill empathy, respect, and awareness among teacher trainees regarding social responsibility and intergenerational solidarity.

The session concluded with a reflection on this year’s theme (if any specified by the UN), followed by interactive activities that encouraged students to engage in conversations about elderly care and community support systems.

A stamp from the college, bearing its name and affiliation number, authenticated the official nature of the event.
