The English Club of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe organised a Dynamic Debate Session on 20 September 2024 at 3:30 PM with the objective of enhancing students’ communication skills, critical thinking ability, and command of the English language. The event aimed to provide a platform for students to express their viewpoints confidently and to engage in meaningful academic discourse.

The programme began with a welcome address by the English Club coordinator, who emphasised the importance of debate in developing language fluency, articulation, and analytical skills. Participants were introduced to the rules, time limits, and judging criteria before the commencement of the debate.

Students were divided into teams representing affirmative and opposing sides on the given topic. Each team presented well-structured arguments, supported with examples, logical reasoning, and language precision. The rebuttal rounds brought out lively and thought-provoking exchanges, making the session intellectually engaging and stimulating.

A panel of judges assessed the participants based on clarity of argument, language proficiency, voice modulation, confidence, relevance of content, and effectiveness of rebuttals. The judges appreciated the students for their preparation, creativity, and enthusiastic participation.

The winning team and outstanding speakers were acknowledged for their exceptional performance. Students expressed that the debate improved their confidence, public speaking skills, and ability to organise ideas effectively in English.

The programme concluded with closing remarks from faculty members, who congratulated the English Club for organising a productive and enriching academic activity.

Overall, the Dynamic Debate proved to be a successful, insightful, and skill-enhancing event that contributed significantly to students’ language development and critical thinking.
