Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 5)
Topic: "വിള സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ" (Cropping Systems)
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the fifth session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 21 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The series was conceived to promote innovative classroom practices by providing prospective teachers with opportunities to observe demonstration lessons delivered by alumni, thereby enhancing their pedagogical knowledge and classroom competencies.
The fifth session featured a demonstration on "വിള സംവിധാനങ്ങൾ" (Cropping Systems), presented by Ms. Anamika C. K, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and emphasized the importance of adopting learner-centred and activity-oriented approaches in teaching Social Science and Environmental Studies.
During the demonstration, Ms. Anamika C. K explained the concept of cropping systems in a systematic and engaging manner. She discussed various types of cropping practices, including mixed cropping, intercropping, crop rotation, and monocropping, highlighting their significance in sustainable agriculture, soil conservation, and food security. The session effectively connected theoretical concepts with real-life agricultural practices, enabling learners to understand the relevance of the topic in the contemporary context.
The demonstration incorporated innovative teaching strategies such as multimedia presentations, visual aids, questioning techniques, collaborative activities, and classroom discussions to promote active participation and conceptual understanding. The resource person encouraged learners to think critically about sustainable farming practices and environmental conservation while demonstrating effective classroom communication, lesson organization, and assessment techniques.
Following the demonstration, an interactive feedback session was conducted, during which participants discussed the instructional strategies employed and reflected on how similar approaches could be integrated into their own teaching practice. The resource person responded to participants' queries and shared valuable suggestions on making classroom instruction more interactive, contextual, and learner-friendly.
The participants appreciated the well-planned presentation, innovative teaching methods, and practical relevance of the demonstration. The session significantly contributed to strengthening the professional competencies of prospective teachers by exposing them to creative instructional practices and effective classroom management strategies.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The fifth session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully inspired participants to adopt innovative, experiential, and learner-centred teaching practices that enrich classroom learning and improve educational outcomes.
