Topic: "Relative Density"

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the twelfth session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 25 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The demonstration series was designed to provide prospective teachers with opportunities to observe innovative teaching methodologies and learner-centred classroom practices through model lessons delivered by MCCTE alumni.

The twelfth session featured a demonstration on "Relative Density," presented by Ms. Neha Fathima A. V, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and highlighted the importance of concept-based, activity-oriented teaching in Physical Science education.

During the demonstration, Ms. Neha Fathima A. V introduced the concept of relative density in a clear and engaging manner by connecting theoretical principles with practical applications. She explained the relationship between density and relative density, the methods of calculating relative density, and its significance in identifying different substances. Through simple experiments, visual aids, and real-life examples, the resource person enabled participants to understand why certain objects float while others sink and how relative density influences these phenomena.

The session effectively integrated multimedia presentations, demonstration experiments, collaborative learning activities, questioning techniques, and interactive discussions to encourage active learner participation and conceptual understanding. The resource person demonstrated the effective use of teaching-learning materials, systematic lesson planning, classroom communication, and formative assessment strategies that enhanced student engagement and scientific inquiry.

An interactive discussion and feedback session followed the demonstration, during which participants reflected on the instructional strategies employed and explored ways of adapting similar learner-centred approaches in their own classrooms. The resource person responded to participants' questions and shared valuable suggestions for making science teaching more experiential, practical, and concept-oriented.

The participants appreciated the clarity of explanation, innovative teaching techniques, and practical orientation of the demonstration. The session significantly contributed to strengthening the pedagogical competencies of prospective teachers by exposing them to effective instructional practices that promote scientific thinking and active learning.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The twelfth session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully reinforced the importance of innovative, learner-centred pedagogy and experiential learning in Physical Science education, inspiring future teachers to create engaging and concept-based classroom experiences.
