Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 2)
Topic: "Animal Tissues: A Cellular Symphony"
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the second session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 20 July 2026 in the College Auditorium. The session was designed to expose prospective teachers to innovative teaching practices and demonstrate effective classroom strategies that make complex concepts engaging, interactive, and learner-centred.
The session, titled "Animal Tissues: A Cellular Symphony," was presented by Mr. Abhinand P, an alumnus of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a formal welcome, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and emphasized the importance of experiential and demonstration-based teaching in developing effective classroom practitioners.
During the demonstration, Mr. Abhinand presented the concept of animal tissues using innovative pedagogical approaches, integrating visual aids, interactive questioning, and activity-based learning techniques. He explained the structure, classification, functions, and significance of epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissues in a systematic and engaging manner. The session illustrated how scientific concepts can be transformed into meaningful learning experiences through creative classroom strategies and effective instructional planning.
The demonstration highlighted learner-centred teaching methods, encouraging active participation, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Participants observed the effective use of communication skills, classroom management techniques, and teaching-learning materials that enhanced student engagement and conceptual understanding. The session also provided valuable insights into lesson organization, instructional delivery, and assessment techniques suitable for Biology classrooms.
An interactive discussion followed the demonstration, during which participants shared their observations, sought clarifications, and exchanged ideas on adapting similar strategies in their own teaching practice. The resource person addressed the queries of the participants and offered practical suggestions for making science teaching more engaging and accessible.
The programme concluded with a feedback session, where participants appreciated the clarity of presentation, innovative methodology, and practical relevance of the demonstration. The session successfully fulfilled its objective of promoting reflective teaching practices and strengthening the pedagogical competencies of future educators.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The demonstration series proved to be an enriching academic initiative that inspired prospective teachers to move "Beyond the Blackboard" by embracing innovative and learner-centred approaches to classroom instruction.
