Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 11)
Topic: "Natural Resources and Their Use"
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the eleventh session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 23 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The demonstration series was designed to provide prospective teachers with opportunities to observe innovative teaching practices and strengthen their pedagogical competencies through model classroom demonstrations conducted by MCCTE alumni.
The eleventh session featured a demonstration on "Natural Resources and Their Use," presented by Ms. Shahin Sulthana V. P, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and emphasized the need to integrate environmental awareness and sustainable development into classroom teaching through innovative pedagogical practices.
During the demonstration, Ms. Shahin Sulthana V. P explained the concept of natural resources, their classification into renewable and non-renewable resources, and their significance in supporting human life and economic development. She highlighted the importance of the sustainable utilization and conservation of resources such as water, forests, minerals, soil, and fossil fuels. The lesson effectively connected theoretical concepts with real-life examples, enabling participants to understand the relevance of environmental conservation in everyday life.
The session incorporated activity-based learning, multimedia presentations, visual aids, collaborative discussions, and questioning techniques to encourage active learner participation and critical thinking. The resource person demonstrated effective classroom communication, learner-centred instructional strategies, and appropriate assessment methods that promoted conceptual understanding and environmental responsibility. The demonstration also showcased the effective integration of teaching-learning materials to make classroom instruction engaging and meaningful.
An interactive discussion and feedback session followed the demonstration, during which participants reflected on the instructional methods employed and explored ways of adapting similar learner-centred approaches in their own classrooms. The resource person responded to participants' queries and shared valuable suggestions for making environmental education more practical, interactive, and relevant to students' lives.
The participants appreciated the clarity of presentation, innovative teaching techniques, and practical orientation of the demonstration. The session significantly contributed to enhancing the pedagogical competencies of prospective teachers by exposing them to effective classroom strategies for teaching environmental concepts and promoting sustainable practices.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The eleventh session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully reinforced the importance of innovative, learner-centred pedagogy in environmental education and inspired future teachers to cultivate environmental awareness and responsible citizenship among their learners.
