Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 8)
Topic: "Exploring the Structure & Functions of Teeth"
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the eighth session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 22 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The series was conducted with the objective of promoting innovative teaching practices and providing prospective teachers with opportunities to observe effective classroom demonstrations by accomplished alumni.
The eighth session featured a demonstration on "Exploring the Structure & Functions of Teeth," presented by Ms. Anjali K. K, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and emphasized the importance of experiential, learner-centred, and concept-oriented teaching in science education.
During the demonstration, Ms. Anjali K. K explained the structure, types, and functions of human teeth through an engaging and activity-based approach. She discussed the anatomy of teeth, including enamel, dentine, pulp, cementum, and roots, while explaining the functions of incisors, canines, premolars, and molars in the process of digestion. The concepts were presented in a systematic manner using appropriate visual aids, models, and real-life examples, enabling participants to understand the topic with greater clarity.
The session effectively incorporated multimedia resources, questioning techniques, collaborative learning activities, and interactive discussions to promote active participation and conceptual understanding. The resource person demonstrated how abstract biological concepts could be made interesting and meaningful through innovative instructional strategies and effective teaching-learning materials. Participants also observed sound classroom management practices, logical lesson sequencing, and formative assessment techniques that enhanced learner engagement.
An interactive discussion and feedback session followed the demonstration, during which participants reflected on the pedagogical approaches adopted and explored ways of integrating similar innovative methods into their own classroom practice. The resource person addressed participants' questions and provided valuable suggestions for making biology teaching more interactive, learner-friendly, and experience-based.
The participants appreciated the well-organized presentation, effective communication, and creative instructional techniques demonstrated during the session. The programme significantly contributed to strengthening the pedagogical competencies of prospective teachers by exposing them to innovative classroom practices and learner-centred instructional methods.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The eighth session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully reinforced the importance of experiential learning and innovative pedagogy in science education, inspiring future teachers to create engaging and effective classroom learning experiences.
