Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 7)
Topic: "Nothing Twice" by Wisława Szymborska
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the seventh session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 22 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The demonstration series was initiated to provide prospective teachers with opportunities to observe innovative classroom practices and strengthen their pedagogical competencies through model teaching sessions conducted by distinguished alumni.
The seventh session featured a demonstration on "Nothing Twice" by Wisława Szymborska, presented by Ms. Nandana S. S, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2022–2024 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and emphasized the importance of learner-centred, reflective, and creative teaching practices in language and literature classrooms.
During the demonstration, Ms. Nandana S. S presented the poem through an engaging and interactive teaching approach that encouraged learners to appreciate its philosophical themes and literary beauty. She effectively explored the poem's central ideas of the uniqueness of every moment, the fleeting nature of life, and the importance of embracing change. Through guided discussion, questioning techniques, and multimedia support, she enabled participants to analyse the poem's imagery, symbolism, and poetic devices while fostering critical thinking and personal reflection.
The demonstration incorporated innovative teaching-learning materials, collaborative activities, and student-centred instructional strategies that promoted active participation and meaningful learning. The resource person demonstrated effective lesson planning, classroom communication, and formative assessment techniques that enhanced learners' comprehension and appreciation of literature. The session also highlighted the integration of creativity and experiential learning in teaching poetry, making the classroom experience more engaging and reflective.
An interactive discussion followed the demonstration, during which participants shared their observations, reflected on the pedagogical strategies employed, and discussed ways of adapting similar approaches in English language classrooms. The resource person responded to participants' queries and provided valuable insights into making poetry teaching more enjoyable, relevant, and learner-oriented.
The participants highly appreciated the clarity of presentation, innovative methodology, and reflective classroom environment created during the session. The demonstration successfully enhanced their understanding of effective literature teaching and inspired them to adopt creative instructional practices in their future profession.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The seventh session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series proved to be an enriching academic experience, reinforcing the importance of innovative, learner-centred, and reflective pedagogical practices in English language and literature education.
