Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" (Session 10)
Topic: "Prism"
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the tenth session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 23 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The series was conducted with the objective of exposing prospective teachers to innovative classroom practices and effective pedagogical techniques through demonstration lessons delivered by MCCTE alumni.
The tenth session featured a demonstration on "Prism," presented by Ms. Athira Sunil P, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and encouraged student teachers to adopt learner-centred, activity-based, and concept-oriented teaching practices in mathematics education.
During the demonstration, Ms. Athira Sunil P introduced the concept of a prism through an engaging and interactive teaching approach. She explained the characteristics, elements, and different types of prisms, highlighting their faces, edges, vertices, and cross-sectional properties. Using models, visual aids, real-life examples, and multimedia resources, she enabled participants to understand the geometric concepts with greater clarity. The demonstration effectively connected theoretical knowledge with practical applications, making the lesson meaningful and interesting.
The session incorporated innovative instructional strategies such as collaborative learning, guided questioning, hands-on activities, and formative assessment techniques to promote active participation and critical thinking. The resource person demonstrated effective lesson planning, classroom management, and learner engagement strategies that encouraged participants to explore mathematical concepts through observation, reasoning, and problem-solving rather than rote learning.
An interactive discussion and feedback session followed the demonstration, during which participants reflected on the pedagogical techniques employed and shared ideas on integrating similar innovative practices into their own classrooms. The resource person addressed participants' queries and provided valuable suggestions for making mathematics teaching more engaging, experiential, and learner-friendly.
The participants appreciated the systematic presentation, effective communication, and creative use of teaching-learning materials demonstrated during the session. The programme significantly contributed to enhancing the pedagogical competencies of prospective teachers by exposing them to innovative instructional methods and practical classroom applications.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The tenth session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully reinforced the importance of experiential and activity-based learning in mathematics education, inspiring future teachers to create engaging and concept-oriented classroom experiences.
