The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized the third session of its Demonstration Series – "Beyond the Blackboard" on 20 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The series aims to provide prospective teachers with opportunities to observe innovative classroom practices and strengthen their pedagogical competencies through demonstration lessons.

The third session featured a demonstration on "The Boat" by K. Satchidanandan, presented by Ms. Surmina V, an alumna of MCCTE from the 2024–2026 Batch. The programme commenced with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the resource person. Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, served as the General Co-ordinator and encouraged student teachers to adopt learner-centred and creative teaching methodologies that inspire meaningful learning.

During the demonstration, Ms. Surmina V presented the poem using an engaging and interactive approach that effectively blended literary appreciation with language learning. She employed suitable teaching-learning materials, thought-provoking questions, multimedia support, and collaborative learning strategies to enhance students' understanding of the poem's themes, imagery, symbolism, and emotional depth. The session highlighted techniques for promoting critical thinking, interpretation, and appreciation of literature while ensuring active learner participation.

The demonstration showcased effective lesson planning, classroom communication, and assessment strategies appropriate for teaching English at the secondary level. Participants observed how innovative pedagogical practices could transform the teaching of poetry into an enjoyable and reflective learning experience. The resource person also emphasized the importance of integrating creativity, discussion, and experiential activities to develop learners' language skills and aesthetic appreciation.

An interactive discussion followed the demonstration, during which participants shared their observations and reflected on the instructional techniques employed. The resource person addressed their queries and provided practical suggestions for adapting similar strategies in English language and literature classrooms.

The participants appreciated the clarity, creativity, and learner-centred nature of the demonstration. The session offered valuable insights into effective classroom practices and reinforced the importance of innovative teaching methods in improving student engagement and learning outcomes.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor and IQAC Co-ordinator, under the overall leadership of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE. The third session of the "Beyond the Blackboard" demonstration series successfully enriched the professional skills of prospective teachers and encouraged them to adopt reflective, interactive, and innovative approaches in language teaching.
