Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe
The IQAC, in collaboration with the English Association, organised a Book Review Programme during the Common Hour on 10th February 2026 at the General Hall (First Floor) of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal (MCCTE), who served as the General Co-ordinator. The IQAC Co-ordinator, Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor (MCCTE), and the Teacher Co-ordinator, Ms. Aneesha T P, Assistant Professor (MCCTE), coordinated the event.
The book selected for review was A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. The reviewer presented a thoughtful and engaging analysis of the novel, highlighting its central themes of resilience, sacrifice, friendship, oppression, and the strength of women set against the socio-political backdrop of Afghanistan.
The presentation focused on:
-
The lives of the protagonists and their emotional struggles
-
The impact of war and patriarchy on women
-
Themes of hope, endurance, and solidarity
-
The author’s narrative style and powerful storytelling
Students actively listened and participated in the discussion session that followed. The programme enhanced critical thinking, interpretative skills, and literary appreciation among students. It also encouraged reflective dialogue on gender issues and social justice.
The session was interactive and engaging, providing a meaningful academic experience during the Common Hour. The programme concluded successfully with appreciation for the presenter and encouragement for more such literary activities in the future.
