Women Cell: Awareness & Empowerment

The IQAC of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE), Mahe, organized the 12th Session of the B.Ed. Orientation Programme on 14 August 2026 at the College Auditorium. The session focused on the theme “Women Cell: Awareness & Empowerment.”

The session was organized to create awareness among student teachers about the role and functions of the Women Cell and to promote gender sensitivity, equality, safety, dignity, and empowerment within the educational institution.

Ms. Anjana P. R., Assistant Professor, MCCTE, served as the Resource Person. She explained the objectives and significance of the Women Cell and highlighted its role in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive campus environment. The session focused on the importance of awareness regarding women's rights, gender equality, personal safety, and mechanisms available for addressing concerns and grievances.

The Resource Person emphasized that empowerment involves not only awareness of rights but also the development of confidence, self-respect, decision-making skills, and the ability to speak up against discrimination and injustice. The students were encouraged to maintain respectful and healthy relationships and to contribute towards creating a gender-sensitive academic environment.

The session also highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions in promoting equal opportunities and ensuring a safe and respectful atmosphere for all members of the campus community. Students were encouraged to actively participate in awareness programmes and activities organized by the Women Cell.

The programme provided the student teachers with valuable insights into the importance of women's empowerment and the institutional mechanisms designed to support and protect the dignity and well-being of women. It also encouraged them to become responsible educators who can promote equality, respect, and inclusiveness in their future schools and communities.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sreelatha K., Principal, MCCTE, General Co-ordinator, with Mr. Arun U., Assistant Professor, MCCTE and IQAC Co-ordinator, coordinating the programme.

The session concluded with the student teachers gaining greater awareness of the role of the Women Cell and the importance of promoting gender equality, safety, dignity, and empowerment in educational and social settings.
