HUMAN RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION

The Social Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe organized a Human Rights Day Celebration on 10th December 2024 at 10:00 AM to promote awareness about human rights, encourage respect for dignity and equality, and educate students about the importance of protecting and upholding fundamental rights.

The programme began with a welcome address, highlighting the significance of Human Rights Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Students were reminded that human rights form the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world.


1. Awareness Session on Human Rights

A resource person delivered an insightful session covering:

  • Meaning and importance of human rights

  • Historical background of the UDHR

  • Fundamental rights and duties of citizens

  • Contemporary human rights issues

  • The role of youth in promoting human rights

The session encouraged students to reflect on fairness, equality, and social justice in daily life.


2. Skit / Role Play on Human Rights Themes

Students presented a meaningful skit highlighting real-life human rights issues such as:

  • Gender equality

  • Right to education

  • Freedom from discrimination

  • Child rights

  • Right to dignity and respect

The performance conveyed powerful messages and raised awareness among the audience.


3. Poster and Slogan Exhibition

Students showcased posters and slogans reflecting themes like:

  • “Human Rights for All”

  • “Equality, Freedom, Justice”

  • “Stand Up for Someone’s Rights Today”

  • “Dignity Belongs to Everyone”

This visual display helped reinforce the importance of protecting human rights.


4. Interactive Discussion

An open discussion allowed students to share views on:

  • Challenges faced by vulnerable groups

  • Need for empathy and social responsibility

  • How individuals can help build a more inclusive society

The discussion strengthened awareness and encouraged active participation.


5. Learning Outcomes

Through this celebration, students were able to:
