The Biological Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Debate Competition on 9th December 2024 at 3:00 PM with the aim of promoting critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and effective communication among students. The event provided a platform for participants to express informed opinions on significant biological and environmental issues while enhancing their analytical and argumentative skills.
The programme began with an introduction to the rules and format of the debate. Students were divided into teams representing both sides of the selected topic. The topic allowed participants to explore contemporary biological concerns and present evidence-based arguments supported by scientific facts and examples. Each team articulated their viewpoints clearly, demonstrating strong preparation and understanding of the subject matter.
Participants engaged in a dynamic exchange of ideas, offering rebuttals and counterarguments that highlighted their reasoning abilities and depth of knowledge. The audience showed keen interest, actively listening to the discussion and gaining insights on the scientific issues being debated. Faculty coordinators served as judges, evaluating the participants based on clarity, content accuracy, logical flow, confidence, and overall delivery.
The debate encouraged students to think critically about the implications of scientific advancements and environmental challenges. It also helped them develop essential skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and persuasive communication. By participating in the debate, students strengthened their scientific awareness and gained confidence in presenting their ideas.
The programme concluded with the announcement of the best-performing team and individual speakers, followed by appreciation for all participants. The Debate Competition was an intellectually stimulating and successful initiative, reflecting the Biological Science Club’s commitment to fostering scientific curiosity, critical inquiry, and academic excellence among students.
