QUIZ ON LANGUAGES OF INDIA

The Language Club of MCCTE Mahe conducted an engaging Quiz on the Languages of India on 13 September 2024 at 3:00 PM in the college campus. The programme aimed to enhance students’ knowledge of India’s linguistic diversity and to promote awareness of the rich cultural heritage associated with various languages.

The event began with an introduction by the club coordinators, who highlighted the importance of understanding India’s multilingual identity. Students participated enthusiastically, forming teams to compete across multiple rounds covering topics such as language families, scripts, regional languages, famous literary works, classical languages, and linguistic facts of India.

Each round encouraged active thinking, quick responses, and teamwork. Participants demonstrated keen interest and competitive spirit, making the quiz lively and intellectually stimulating. The activity helped students expand their knowledge while appreciating the vast linguistic landscape of the country.

The programme concluded with the announcement of winners and words of appreciation for all participants. Overall, the Quiz on Languages of India was a successful and enriching event that effectively promoted linguistic awareness and teamwork among students.

World First Aid Day is observed annually on the second Saturday of September to promote awareness about the importance of first aid in saving lives. In 2024, it was celebrated on September 14 with the theme “First Aid and Sports”, highlighting the need for immediate medical attention in sports-related injuries.

First aid refers to simple, life-saving measures that anyone can perform with minimal equipment and no prior medical training. Its main objectives are to preserve life, promote recovery, prevent further harm, and ensure safe transportation to healthcare facilities.

At our institution, the World First Aid Day program was organized by the Mathematics Department, led by Ms. Athira Sunil P. She delivered an informative talk on the importance of first aid and conducted a quiz to raise awareness among students.

Remembrance Day Report

The Remembrance Day program was observed on September 11, 2024, to honor the memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. The attacks involved a series of airline hijackings and suicide missions carried out by 19 militants associated with the extremist group al-Qaeda. These tragic events targeted key locations in the United States, including New York City and Washington, D.C., marking the deadliest terrorist attacks in American history.

Approximately 2,750 people were killed in New York, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in Pennsylvania, where all hijackers also perished. The attacks caused massive destruction and loss of life, particularly among first responders—more than 400 police officers and firefighters lost their lives while attempting rescue operations.

The Remembrance Day program was organized by the Mathematics Department and led by Ms. Hafstah EK. She delivered an insightful introduction about the World Trade Center terrorist attack and provided a summary of the sequence of events, the impact on the United States, and the significant losses suffered.

The event served as a solemn occasion to remember the victims, honor the bravery of first responders, and reflect on the global efforts to combat terrorism.

World Suicide Prevention Day was observed at Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education on 10th September 2024 during the morning assembly. The day aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention and promote mental health support for those in need.

On this occasion, Ms. Kashmira delivered a brief yet impactful speech, emphasizing the importance of understanding, compassion, and timely support for individuals experiencing emotional distress. She spoke about recognizing warning signs, offering a listening ear, and encouraging people to seek professional help when needed.

The program reminded students of the value of empathy, open communication, and community support in preventing suicide, thereby fostering a culture of care and understanding within society.

Grandparents’ Day was celebrated at Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education to honor and appreciate the love, guidance, and wisdom that grandparents bring to families.

The morning assembly featured a heartfelt speech by Ms. Swathi Rajeev, who spoke about the significance of Grandparents’ Day and the invaluable role grandparents play in nurturing values, traditions, and emotional support for the younger generation. She highlighted their unconditional love and the importance of cherishing and respecting them.

The Biological Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe organized a Clean-Up Drive on 10th September 2024 at 10:00 AM with the objective of promoting environmental responsibility, maintaining a hygienic campus environment, and encouraging students to actively participate in conservation activities. The initiative aimed to create awareness about waste management, cleanliness, and the importance of preserving natural surroundings.

The programme began with a short briefing on the purpose of the activity and instructions for conducting the clean-up effectively and safely. Students were divided into teams and assigned specific areas within the campus and surrounding premises. Equipped with gloves, bags, and basic cleaning tools, students enthusiastically took part in collecting litter, segregating waste, and cleaning pathways, garden areas, and open spaces.

Participants were educated on the importance of proper waste segregation, composting organic waste, and reducing the use of plastics. The activity helped students understand how small responsible actions contribute significantly to environmental protection. Faculty members supervised the drive and guided students in identifying biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

The Clean-Up Drive not only improved the physical environment of the campus but also fostered teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community ownership among students. By engaging directly with environmental issues, students gained firsthand experience in maintaining a clean and healthy ecosystem.

The programme concluded with words of appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to continue practising cleanliness in their daily lives and to inspire others to adopt eco-friendly habits. Mahe Co-Operative College of Teacher Education observed World Literacy Day on 8th September 2024 with great enthusiasm and commitment to spreading awareness about the importance of literacy in shaping an equitable and progressive society.

A literacy awareness talk led by student-teachers in the assembly. Students actively participated in the talk.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the program coordinator, followed by the national anthem.

Overall, the World Literacy Day celebration served as an important reminder of the college's role in nurturing future educators who are committed to fostering literacy, empowerment, and social transformation.

The Language Club of MCCTE Mahe organized a vibrant Language Exhibition on 06 September 2024 at 10:00 AM in the college campus. The exhibition aimed to showcase the richness of different languages, promote linguistic awareness, and encourage students to explore diverse forms of communication.

The programme began with an introduction by the club coordinators, who highlighted the importance of multilingualism and the need to appreciate the cultural value embedded in various languages. Students prepared and displayed a wide range of exhibits, including charts, posters, language trees, phonetic charts, vocabulary boards, scripts, and cultural artefacts representing different languages.

Participants enthusiastically explained their exhibits, demonstrating creativity, research skills, and a deep understanding of linguistic features. The exhibition created an engaging and informative atmosphere, enabling students and visitors to learn about pronunciation patterns, language families, writing systems, and the cultural backgrounds of different languages.

The session concluded with appreciation from the coordinators for the students’ efforts and innovative presentations. Overall, the Language Exhibition was a successful and enriching programme that effectively promoted linguistic diversity and enhanced students’ interest in language learning.

TEACHER’S DAY

 REPORT ON TEACHER’S DAY

On September 5, our college celebrated Teacher’s Day with great enthusiasm and respect to honour the dedicated teachers. The event was organized by the students of first year and featured the formal function followed by engaging activities designed to express gratitude to the faculty.

The celebration began with a formal function in auditorium with a beautiful prayer by Nishi. The presidential address was delivered by Athira C V. Following this, welcome speech was presented by C. Nandana.

As part of the program, two of our distinguished faculty members, Dr. Sreelatha ma’am and Priyamol ma’am, spoke about the invaluable contributions to the institution. They were presented with tokens of appreciation including flowers and personalized cards as a small gesture of the students’ immense respect and gratitude.

To add a touch of fun and engagement to the event, students organized a lively interactive section for both the teachers and students. Students presented a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the importance of teaching, which was prepared by Sneha Anil.

The celebration was further enlivened by cultural performances organized by the students. Ann Mary captivated the audience with her soulful song and Diya by her energetic dance performance.

Report on District-Level Quiz Competition 2024

On September 2, 2024, a district-level quiz competition was organized by the National Health Mission, Government of Puducherry in connection with the 39th National Fortnight on Eye Donation 2024. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various colleges in the Mahe region, including prestigious institutions such as Mahe Institute of Dental Science and Rajiv Gandhi Ayurveda Medical College.

Representing Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, C. Nandana (1st-year B.Ed. English) and Keerthana V. (1st-year B.Ed. Physical Science) excelled in the competition, securing the first prize along with a cash award of Rs 1500. Their remarkable performance stood out as they outscored students from medical backgrounds, demonstrating their excellent preparation and sharp intellect.

Prior to the district-level event, a college-level quiz competition was held at Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education to select participants. A total of seven students took part in this internal competition, including Nahal (Social Science option), Rithula, Surmina, C. Nandana (English), Sangeerth, Keerthana V., and Krishna Theertha (Physical Science). The quiz was conducted individually, and after a competitive first round, C. Nandana and Keerthana V. emerged with the highest scores, earning them the opportunity to represent the college at the district level.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication and academic excellence of the students of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, who continue to make the institution proud through their outstanding performances in various competitions.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB INAUGURATION

The Environmental Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe was inaugurated on 2nd September 2024. The program was organized with the objective of creating environmental awareness and promoting sustainable practices among teacher trainees.

The inauguration was coordinated by Dr. Sreelatha K (General Coordinator), Arun U (IQAC Coordinator), and Nithinlal V (Teacher Coordinator). The event emphasized the importance of protecting nature, conserving resources, and developing eco-friendly habits.

The Environmental Club plans to conduct various activities such as tree plantation, awareness campaigns, waste management programs, and seminars. The active participation of students marked the success of the inaugural function and encouraged a collective commitment towards environmental protection.

Talents Day Programme

 The Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education organized its annual Talents Day Programme on 31 August 2024, providing a vibrant platform for students to display their diverse skills and creativity.

The event began with a welcome address by the principal, followed by a series of performances that showcased the artistic and cultural abilities of the students. The programme featured singing, dancing, instrumental music, drama, poetry recitation, and other creative presentations. Every student was given an opportunity to participate and present their unique talents, fostering confidence and teamwork.

The enthusiastic participation created an atmosphere filled with energy and joy, while the audience responded with great appreciation for each performance. Faculty members encouraged the students and expressed pride in their efforts and creativity.

The Talents Day Programme successfully fulfilled its objective of celebrating individuality and nurturing the cultural and artistic spirit within the college community.

PACS- Drama competition

 MCCTE Students Win First Prize in Drama Competition

The students of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE) showcased their exceptional talent by securing the First Prize in the Drama Competition organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society (PACS), Mahe.

The competition aimed to create awareness about HIV/AIDS through creative performances, and the MCCTE team impressed both the audience and judges with their impactful script, powerful acting, and excellent coordination. Their drama effectively conveyed the theme while maintaining high artistic quality.

The Principal and faculty members congratulated the students for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievement, which brought pride and recognition to the institution.

The district-level drama competition, organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society, Government of Puducherry, was held at the auditorium of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE) on August 30, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about AIDS and its related social issues through thought-provoking performances.

The event began with an address by the President of the occasion, Sri Sajith Narayan, who emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about AIDS and supporting those affected by the disease.

Performance Highlights:

1. Chest No. 102: A skit that focused on the emotional and social challenges faced by AIDS patients, highlighting the need for empathy and support.

2. Chest No. 101 (MCCTE): The winning skit from our college, titled "Fight AIDS, Don’t Isolate AIDS Patients," effectively conveyed the message of inclusivity and support for those living with AIDS.

3. Chest No. 103: This skit portrayed the devastating effects of alcohol abuse on family life, emphasizing how substance abuse can lead to the spread of AIDS.

4. Chest No. 104: A poignant performance addressing the loneliness faced by AIDS patients, particularly focusing on the spread of AIDS through contaminated tattoo needles.

5. Chest No. 105: This skit highlighted the transmission of AIDS through syringes and from parents to children, underlining the importance of proper medical practices and education.

Results:

2nd Place: Chest No. 104 (MG College) – Prize: ₹2,000

3rd Place: Chest No. 103 (Indira Gandhi Government Polytechnic) – Prize: ₹1,000

The judges for the event were Mr. Bilal, Mr. Rakesh, and Mrs. Shamna, all of whom are esteemed Assistant Professors at MCCHET. They commended the participants for their powerful performances and the important messages conveyed through their skits.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, the college principal awarded a trophy and a gift to the Best Actor from IGPTC.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Unnikrishnan, PACS Coordinator for the Mahe region. He expressed his gratitude to the college principal, staff, and management for their seamless coordination and the successful hosting of the event.

Refreshments, including tea and cake, were provided to all participants and attendees, adding a warm and communal touch to the event.

The competition was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the audience and reinforcing the vital message of awareness and support in the fight against AIDS.

Red Run Marathon

On August 29, 2024, the Red Run Marathon was organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society in collaboration with the Government of Puducherry. The event aimed to promote health and fitness while raising awareness about AIDS.

The marathon route began at the Pandakal Primary Health Centre (PHC) and extended to the Paloor Police Station. After reporting at the Paloor checkpoint, participants returned to the starting point, completing a total distance of 5 kilometers.

Students from Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education participated enthusiastically in the event. We are proud to report that all our students successfully completed the race. The following students took part:

This event not only highlighted our students’ commitment to physical fitness but also demonstrated their support for a meaningful social cause. We wholeheartedly congratulate all our participants for their achievement and commendable contribution to the marathon.

Women's Equality Day

 The Department of Physical Science at Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education organized a special program on Women’s Equality Day on 26 August 2024. The event aimed to promote awareness about gender equality and to inspire students through literary perspectives on women’s rights.

The highlight of the program was a talk delivered by Safeer PV, a student of the college, on the topic “Equality Inspired from Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own.” In his talk, Safeer discussed the significance of personal space, financial independence, and equal opportunities for women, as portrayed in Woolf’s work. The session encouraged the audience to reflect on the importance of equality in education and society at large.

Faculty members and students actively participated in the discussion that followed, sharing their views and drawing connections between Woolf’s ideas and contemporary challenges.

The event concluded with a note of appreciation from the Head of the Department, commending Safeer PV for his insightful presentation and encouraging students to engage in more such thought-provoking discussions.

The Transgender Club of MCCTE, Mahe organized the Transgender Day Celebration on 25 August 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the college campus.

The programme aimed to create awareness about transgender identity, promote inclusivity, and foster a campus environment rooted in respect, equality, and dignity for all individuals. The event highlighted the struggles, achievements, and contributions of the transgender community, encouraging students to develop empathy and a broader understanding of gender diversity.

The celebration included informative sessions, awareness messages, and interactive discussions that helped students engage meaningfully with the theme. Participants reflected on issues related to stigma, discrimination, and the importance of supportive social spaces for the transgender community. The event aimed to promote scientific curiosity, creativity, and environmental awareness among students.

The programme began with a brief introduction on the purpose of the contest, emphasizing the role of photography in documenting the natural world and highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation. Students were encouraged to capture photographs that showcased plants, animals, insects, natural landscapes, and ecological interactions.

Participants submitted a variety of photographs that reflected their keen observation skills and creativity. Many images beautifully portrayed intricate details of flora and fauna, while others highlighted the delicate balance within ecosystems. The photographs were displayed for viewing, allowing students and faculty members to appreciate the diversity and quality of the entries.
