 The Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education organized its annual Talents Day Programme on 31 August 2024, providing a vibrant platform for students to display their diverse skills and creativity.

The event began with a welcome address by the principal, followed by a series of performances that showcased the artistic and cultural abilities of the students. The programme featured singing, dancing, instrumental music, drama, poetry recitation, and other creative presentations. Every student was given an opportunity to participate and present their unique talents, fostering confidence and teamwork.

The enthusiastic participation created an atmosphere filled with energy and joy, while the audience responded with great appreciation for each performance. Faculty members encouraged the students and expressed pride in their efforts and creativity.

 MCCTE Students Win First Prize in Drama Competition

The students of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE) showcased their exceptional talent by securing the First Prize in the Drama Competition organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society (PACS), Mahe.

The competition aimed to create awareness about HIV/AIDS through creative performances, and the MCCTE team impressed both the audience and judges with their impactful script, powerful acting, and excellent coordination. Their drama effectively conveyed the theme while maintaining high artistic quality.

The Principal and faculty members congratulated the students for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievement, which brought pride and recognition to the institution.

The district-level drama competition, organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society, Government of Puducherry, was held at the auditorium of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE) on August 30, 2024. The event aimed to raise awareness about AIDS and its related social issues through thought-provoking performances.

The event began with an address by the President of the occasion, Sri Sajith Narayan, who emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about AIDS and supporting those affected by the disease.

Performance Highlights:

1. Chest No. 102: A skit that focused on the emotional and social challenges faced by AIDS patients, highlighting the need for empathy and support.

2. Chest No. 101 (MCCTE): The winning skit from our college, titled "Fight AIDS, Don’t Isolate AIDS Patients," effectively conveyed the message of inclusivity and support for those living with AIDS.

3. Chest No. 103: This skit portrayed the devastating effects of alcohol abuse on family life, emphasizing how substance abuse can lead to the spread of AIDS.

4. Chest No. 104: A poignant performance addressing the loneliness faced by AIDS patients, particularly focusing on the spread of AIDS through contaminated tattoo needles.

5. Chest No. 105: This skit highlighted the transmission of AIDS through syringes and from parents to children, underlining the importance of proper medical practices and education.

The judges for the event were Mr. Bilal, Mr. Rakesh, and Mrs. Shamna, all of whom are esteemed Assistant Professors at MCCHET. They commended the participants for their powerful performances and the important messages conveyed through their skits.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, the college principal awarded a trophy and a gift to the Best Actor from IGPTC.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Unnikrishnan, PACS Coordinator for the Mahe region. He expressed his gratitude to the college principal, staff, and management for their seamless coordination and the successful hosting of the event.

Refreshments, including tea and cake, were provided to all participants and attendees, adding a warm and communal touch to the event.

The competition was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the audience and reinforcing the vital message of awareness and support in the fight against AIDS.

Red Run Marathon

On August 29, 2024, the Red Run Marathon was organized by the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society in collaboration with the Government of Puducherry. The event aimed to promote health and fitness while raising awareness about AIDS.

The marathon route began at the Pandakal Primary Health Centre (PHC) and extended to the Paloor Police Station. After reporting at the Paloor checkpoint, participants returned to the starting point, completing a total distance of 5 kilometers.

Students from Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education participated enthusiastically in the event. We are proud to report that all our students successfully completed the race. The following students took part:

Women's Equality Day

 The Department of Physical Science at Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education organized a special program on Women’s Equality Day on 26 August 2024. The event aimed to promote awareness about gender equality and to inspire students through literary perspectives on women’s rights.

The highlight of the program was a talk delivered by Safeer PV, a student of the college, on the topic “Equality Inspired from Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own.” In his talk, Safeer discussed the significance of personal space, financial independence, and equal opportunities for women, as portrayed in Woolf’s work. The session encouraged the audience to reflect on the importance of equality in education and society at large.

Faculty members and students actively participated in the discussion that followed, sharing their views and drawing connections between Woolf’s ideas and contemporary challenges.

Students were encouraged to capture photographs that showcased plants, animals, insects, natural landscapes, and ecological interactions.

Sadbhavana Diwas, observed on August 20th, marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and is dedicated to promoting national integration, peace, and harmony across India. The day emphasizes unity among people of different religions, languages, and cultures, reflecting Rajiv Gandhi's vision of a diverse yet united nation. Celebrations include taking the Sadbhavana pledge, peace marches, and cultural programs aimed at fostering goodwill and understanding. It serves as a reminder for citizens to work towards overcoming divisions and building a society based on tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

The program on Sadbhavana Diwas was conducted by Mathematics department, led by Ashamya B Rajeev. She spoke about the significance of the day, emphasizing the importance of peace, unity, and harmony in society. Following her speech, she led the participants in taking the Sadbhavana pledge, reaffirming their commitment to national integration and goodwill.

WORLD MOSQUITO DAY

World Mosquito Day, observed on August 20th, marks the discovery by Sir Ronald Ross in 1897 that mosquitoes transmit malaria. This day raises awareness about the global impact of mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, and Zika, which continue to affect millions, particularly in tropical regions. Efforts on this day focus on educating communities about prevention methods, such as using mosquito nets and controlling breeding sites, to reduce the spread of these diseases. It also emphasizes the importance of global cooperation and continued research in the fight against these deadly pests.

The World Mosquito Day program was conducted by the Mathematics department, led by Athira Sunil. She conducted a quiz to engage students and she spoke briefly about the significance of the day.

Level Drama Competition 2024 - In association with Pondicherry AIDS Control Society and Government of Puducherry

 A college-level drama competition was organized on August 19, 2024, at the auditorium of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE). The event was conducted in collaboration with the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society and the Government of Puducherry. The primary objectives were to select a team to represent the college in the forthcoming district-level drama competition and to raise awareness about AIDS and its broader health and social implications.

The program began with an inaugural address by Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal of MCCTE. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of AIDS awareness and how creative platforms like drama can be instrumental in disseminating important social messages. Her address set an encouraging and thoughtful tone for the event.

Two teams participated in the competition, both delivering compelling performances that successfully conveyed powerful messages related to AIDS awareness. The participants showcased creativity, emotional depth, and strong acting skills, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. After thorough evaluation, one team was selected to represent the college at the district-level competition.

The programme began with a brief introduction explaining the concept of a travel brochure and its role in the tourism industry. Students were guided on the key elements of an effective brochure such as destination highlights, travel routes, cultural attractions, accommodation details, food specialties, safety tips, and visual appeal. They were encouraged to design brochures based on real or imaginary tourist destinations.

Students actively participated by creating colourful and informative brochures using charts, drawings, images, and creative layouts. A wide variety of destinations including hill stations, heritage cities, beaches, wildlife sanctuaries, and international tourist spots were selected. Each brochure reflected originality, clarity of information, and artistic presentation.

After completion, students presented their brochures and explained the features of their chosen destinations. The presentations highlighted students’ understanding of tourism planning, communication skills, and aesthetic sense. The programme began with a brief introduction explaining the rules and purpose of the Map Hunt. Students were divided into teams and provided with clues based on geographical locations, directions, map symbols, and coordinates. Each team had to carefully analyze the clues and locate the correct places on the map within the given time.

Students participated with great enthusiasm and teamwork, actively discussing directions, identifying landmarks, and solving geographical puzzles. The Map Hunt helped students understand the practical importance of geography, direction sense, and spatial awareness in daily life and travel.

At the end of the activity, the winning team was appreciated for their accuracy and speed. All participants were congratulated for their active involvement and teamwork. Students shared that the programme was both fun and educational, helping them improve their geographical skills in an enjoyable way.

The programme concluded with words of appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to continue participating in creative and skill-based activities. The Social Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Poster Making Competition on 12th August 2024 at 10:30 AM. The event aimed to encourage creativity among students while raising awareness about socially significant issues. The programme began with a welcome note and instructions regarding the rules of the competition. Students enthusiastically participated and created posters based on themes such as human rights, environmental protection, youth empowerment, national integration, gender equality, and social justice.

Participants used various artistic materials to design posters that were visually appealing and impactful. Their artworks reflected originality, clarity of message, and strong awareness of social concerns. Faculty coordinators and judges evaluated the posters based on creativity, relevance to the theme, presentation, and overall visual impact. The posters were later displayed across the campus, helping spread awareness among the college community.

The event provided students with an opportunity to express their ideas artistically while enhancing their understanding of important social issues. It also encouraged confidence, critical thinking, and responsible citizenship. The programme concluded with appreciation for all participants and acknowledgment of their sincere efforts. World Biofuel Day

World Biofuel Day, observed on August 10th, highlights the role of biofuels in sustainable development and energy security. The day underscores the environmental benefits of biofuels, which are derived from renewable sources like plants and organic waste, offering a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. Biofuels can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependency on non-renewable resources.

Despite their potential, the biofuel industry faces challenges such as high production costs, competition from conventional fuels, and issues related to feedstock supply and land use. Government policies and initiatives aim to address these challenges by promoting research, development, and adoption of biofuels. Events on World Biofuel Day typically include educational programs, seminars, and demonstrations to raise awareness about biofuels' benefits and encourage their use as part of a sustainable energy strategy.

The World Biofuel Day program was organized by the Mathematics department and led by Anjana Das. During the event, Anjana highlighted the significance of biofuels in promoting sustainable energy and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. She highlighted how biofuels contribute to energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and promote rural development by creating jobs in the agricultural sector. Her insights underscored the need for continued innovation and investment in biofuel technologies to support a greener future.

Nagasaki Day

   On 9th August 2024, the Department of Biological Science of Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education observed Nagasaki Day to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki during World War II. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the devastating effects of nuclear weapons and to promote the message of peace and global harmony. 

The event began with a brief welcome address by Hridhika Rajan highlighting the historical significance of the day and the tragic consequences of the bombing in 1945. 

Following this, students from the Biological Science Department presented speeches and posters depicting the theme "No More Hiroshima, No More Nagasaki". 

The programme concluded with a pledge lead by Devanandha by all participants to work towards fostering peace and opposing any form of violence or warfare.

The Social Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe observed the Quit India Movement Day on 9th August 2024 at 11:00 AM to commemorate the historic call for “Do or Die” given by Mahatma Gandhi and to create awareness among students about India’s struggle for independence. The programme aimed to highlight the significance of the Quit India Movement of 1942 and its role in uniting the nation against colonial rule.

The event began with a brief introduction explaining the background of the movement and its impact on India’s freedom struggle. Students were reminded of the courage and sacrifices of countless freedom fighters who fought relentlessly for the nation’s independence. A speech was delivered by a faculty member, emphasizing the importance of resistance, unity, and national determination showcased during the movement.

Students actively participated in the observance by presenting speeches, poems, and reflections on leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Aruna Asaf Ali, Jayaprakash Narayan, and others who played vital roles in the movement. A short skit portraying key incidents of 1942 added depth to the programme and helped students visualize the intensity of the patriotic struggle.

The programme also included slogan presentations and poster displays that portrayed messages such as “Unity for Freedom,” “Do or Die,” and “Nation First,” reinforcing the patriotic spirit of the day. Students engaged in discussions about the relevance of the movement in contemporary society, such as standing against injustice, promoting national integrity, and upholding democratic values.

The celebration concluded with a message encouraging students to learn from the sacrifices of freedom fighters and to contribute positively to the nation’s progress. The observance of the Quit India Movement Day was a meaningful and educational initiative, reflecting the Social Science Club’s commitment to promoting historical awareness, patriotism, and civic responsibility among students

National Handloom Day

       National Handloom Day, celebrated on August 7th, honours India's weaving tradition and the 1905 Swadeshi Movement. The handloom sector, employing over 4.3 million people, faces challenges like competition from power looms and limited market access. Government initiatives like the NHDP and Weaver MUDRA Scheme support this sector. Celebrations include exhibitions, workshops, and awareness campaigns to promote handloom products and preserve India's cultural heritage. 

      The program was conducted by Social Science department, led by Revandh. He spoke about the history of India's handloom sector and on different schemes and initiatives of the same. Followed by Vijnan Das, from the same department shared his thoughts on the present scenario of handloom sector.
