WORLD PUPPETRY DAY – PUPPET DEMONSTRATION CLASS

The Drama Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Puppet Demonstration Class on 21st March 2024 at 2:00 PM in observance of World Puppetry Day. The programme aimed to introduce students to the art of puppetry, enhance their creative skills, and highlight the relevance of puppetry in education and performing arts.
The session began with a welcome address and a brief introduction to World Puppetry Day, emphasizing the cultural and artistic significance of puppetry across the world. The resource person explained the history of puppetry, different types of puppets, and its role in storytelling and theatre.
During the demonstration, students were shown various puppetry techniques, including:

Manipulation of hand, rod, and string puppets

Voice modulation and character creation

Coordinating puppet movements with dialogue

Basics of puppet staging and performance
The interactive nature of the session allowed students to actively participate by trying basic puppet movements and creating simple character expressions. The demonstration helped students understand how puppetry can be used as an effective educational tool to engage learners and deliver meaningful stories.
The class concluded with a short question–answer session, where students expressed curiosity and appreciation for the art form. The resource person encouraged them to incorporate puppetry into teaching-learning activities, especially in primary education.
