The Drama Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Screening of a Shakespearean Drama on 26th July 2024 at 2:00 PM as part of its initiative to familiarize students with classic literature and enhance their understanding of theatrical expression.

The programme began with a brief introduction to William Shakespeare’s contributions to world literature and drama. Students were encouraged to appreciate the richness of Shakespeare’s themes, characters, and language, which continue to influence modern storytelling.

A selected Shakespearean play was screened, offering students an engaging visual interpretation of the text. The screening helped participants grasp elements such as:

  • Character development and emotional depth

  • Dramatic structure and stagecraft

  • Use of poetic language and dialogues

  • Universal themes such as love, power, conflict, and morality

Students attentively watched the performance, gaining insights into how classical drama is adapted for modern audiences through cinematography, costumes, and acting styles.

After the screening, a short discussion session was held where students shared their reflections, interpretations, and favourite scenes. The activity enhanced their critical thinking and appreciation for classical theatre.

The programme concluded with remarks highlighting the importance of experiencing dramatized literary works to deepen comprehension and cultivate artistic sensitivity.
