The English Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Show and Tell activity on 25th July 2024 at 2:00 PM with the objective of enhancing students’ speaking skills, confidence, creativity, and ability to express ideas clearly in English. The programme aimed to provide students with a supportive platform to practice communication in an engaging and interactive manner.

The programme began with a brief introduction explaining the purpose and format of the Show and Tell activity. Students were asked to bring an object of their choice and speak about it in front of their peers. Participants confidently presented a variety of items such as books, photographs, handmade crafts, daily-use objects, and memorable personal items. Each student explained the significance, background, and personal connection of the chosen object.

Students showed great enthusiasm while presenting and demonstrated improvements in pronunciation, vocabulary usage, clarity of speech, and body language. The programme began with a short introduction explaining the significance of cognitive biases—such as confirmation bias, anchoring bias, and stereotyping—and their impact on everyday thinking and judgments. The concept of social influence, including conformity, obedience, and peer pressure, was also introduced to provide context for the activity.

In the role play, students enacted real-life scenarios illustrating how cognitive biases unconsciously shape decisions and how individuals tend to modify their behaviour under social influence. The performances highlighted situations such as group conformity, persuasion techniques, biased decision-making, and the effects of authority on behavior.  On April 25, 2024, the Department of Biological Science at Mahe Cooperative College of Teacher Education organized a special morning assembly to commemorate World Malaria Day. 

This event aimed to raise awareness about malaria prevention and control among students and faculty members.

The assembly featured an informative presentation detailing the causes, symptoms, and prevention methods of malaria. Emphasis was placed on the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites and the use of protective measures such as insecticide-treated nets.

World Book Day

 World Book Day

World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading.World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading.

As World Book Day founder,Baroness Gail Rebuck,recalls “We wanted to do something to reposition reading and our message is the same today as it was then-that reading is fun,relevant,accessible,exciting,and has the power to transform lives.”

On April 23,2024,the Social Science Association of Mahe Co-operative College of Teachers Education organized a program to commemorate World Book Day. The event commenced at 9:30 am and was hosted by Hridya, a first-year B.Ed.social science student. Anusree C.K.,also a first-year B.Ed social science student,was invited to speak about the significance of World Book Day.Additionally, as a part of the festivities,the social science association held a Book Review Writing Competition.

The Drama Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Drama Workshop on 22nd April 2024 at 11:00 AM with the objective of enhancing students’ theatrical skills, creativity, and confidence in stage performance.

The programme began with a welcome address, followed by a brief introduction to the purpose of the workshop. The resource person explained the importance of drama in education, emphasizing how theatre helps in self-expression, communication, teamwork, and emotional development.

The workshop included interactive sessions focusing on:

  • Basic acting techniques

  • Voice modulation and expression

  • Body language and stage presence

  • Improvisation activities

  • Short role-play exercises

Students actively participated in each activity, showing enthusiasm and interest. The hands-on exercises helped them explore their creativity, overcome stage fear, and develop confidence in performing before an audience.

The instructor also shared valuable tips on script interpretation, character building, and maintaining audience engagement, making the session highly enriching and practical.
