The event, held as part of the club's ongoing commitment to fostering scientific temperament and literary skills among students, saw enthusiastic participation from across the college.

WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY

 WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY

World Food Safety Day, observed annually on June 7th, aims to draw attention to and inspire action to prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, and economic prosperity. This year's theme is "Food safety: science in action," highlighting the critical role of scientific knowledge in reducing foodborne illnesses, lowering costs, and saving lives. The day raises awareness about the importance of safe food practices across the entire food chain, from production to consumption. It's a collaborative effort led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with support from member states and other relevant organizations. The 2025 theme emphasizes the crucial role of science in understanding food safety hazards and developing effective preventative measures. It encourages individuals, businesses, governments, and organizations to take concrete steps to ensure food safety. In India, World Food Safety Day highlights the country's progress in transitioning to a science-based food safety system under the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). However, it also acknowledges the need to address regulatory gaps and outdated practices.

World Food Safety Day was conducted by the physical science students. They delivered a speech in the morning assembly reflecting the history and importance of world food safety day.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY

 Friendship Day was first proposed in 1930 by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards. The idea was further promoted by the greeting card American National Association, but was not taken in a healthy spirit as it reflected the commercial gimmick to promote the greeting cards in name of Friendship Day. The original date of celebration was 2 August, though it has since been moved to 7 August due to de-synchronisation in the United States.

The Idea of a Global Friendship Day was first proposed on 20 July 1958 by Dr.

Ramon Artemio Bracho during a dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco, a town on the River Paraguay about 200 miles (320 km) north of Asuncion, Paraguay. During said meeting, the World Friendship Crusade was born. The World Friendship Crusade is a foundation that promotes friendship and fellowship among all human beings, regardless of race, colour or religion. Since then, 30 July has been fervently celebrated as Friendship Day in Paraguay every year and has also been adopted by several other countries.

To honour Friendship Day, in 1998, Nane Annan named Winnie the Pooh the world's Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations. The event was co-sponsored by the U.N. Department of Public Information and Disney Enterprises, co-hosted by Kathy

Lee Gifford.

The World Friendship Crusade lobbied the United Nations for several years to recognize 30 July as World Friendship Day; Finally, in 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to designate 30 July as the International Day of Friendship and proceeded to invite all the Member States to observe the International Day of Friendship per the culture and customs of their local, national and regional communities, including through education and public awareness-raising activities.

On this day English option of Mahe Co-operative College of Teachers Education, Mahe celebrated the day with a talk on the day highlighting the significant features of the day and also about the importance of having friends in every ones life.

INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY

Report of biological science programme 

 Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia by Vladimir Putin, who has made it his mission to save the Amur tiger. He signed laws that impose significantly tough punishments and lengthy prison sentences for the poaching, illegal trade, transportation or storage of tigers in Russia. The Amur Tiger Centre is an organization created by the Russian Geographical Society on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The goal of the day is to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues. International Tiger Day has been shown to be effective in increasing online awareness on tigers through information search.

The students of biological science organised a quiz competition. It was very informative and we received good feedback from students and teachers.

One-Day National Professional Enrichment Workshop on Educational Aid Design

Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education (MCCTE), Mahe, organized a One-Day National Professional Enrichment Workshop on the topic “Educational Aid Design for Student Teachers” on 29th July 2025.

The workshop aimed to equip student teachers with the skills and creativity required to design effective and innovative educational aids that enhance classroom teaching and learning. The programme provided a platform for participants to understand the importance of teaching aids in making lessons more engaging, interactive, and learner-centered.

The resource person for the workshop was Sri. Raman Master, a retired teacher from T.T.M. Girls Higher Secondary School, Nadapuram, who is widely recognized for his excellence in innovative teaching practices. Notably, he was awarded the First Prize for innovative teaching technique at the South Indian Science Festival in 2007.

During the session, Sri. Raman Master shared his vast experience and demonstrated various techniques for designing low-cost, effective, and creative teaching aids using easily available materials. He emphasized the role of visual and activity-based aids in improving student understanding and retention. The session also included practical demonstrations, enabling participants to gain hands-on experience in developing their own teaching aids.

The workshop witnessed active participation from student teachers, who showed great enthusiasm in engaging with the activities and discussions. The interactive nature of the session encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration among the participants.

Overall, the workshop was highly informative and beneficial, enhancing the professional skills of student teachers and inspiring them to adopt innovative approaches in their teaching practices.

World Hepatitis Day, 28 July, is an opportunity to step up national and international efforts on hepatitis, encourage actions and engagement by individuals, partners and the public and highlight the need for a greater global response as outlined in the WHO's Global hepatitis report of 2017.

The date of 28 July was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg, who discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.

Low coverage of testing and treatment is the most important gap to be addressed in order to achieve the global elimination goals by 2030.

Hepatitis groups, patients and advocates worldwide take part in events on 28 July.

Notably in 2012, a Guinness World Record was created when 12,588 people from 20 countries did the Three Wise Monkeys actions on World Hepatitis Day to signify the willful ignorance of the disease.

World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated every year on July 28. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of protecting our natural environment, including forests, water, animals, and plants. It reminds us that nature gives us everything we need to live clean air, food, water, and shelter, and it is our duty to take care of it.

The official theme for World Nature Conservation Day 2025 is "Connecting People and Plants, Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation". This means we need to stay connected with nature and use modern technology like satellites, apps, and drones to protect plants and animals. The theme also supports the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement in India, which promotes small changes in our daily lives, such as saving water and using eco-friendly transport, to help the planet.

The World Nature Conservation Day was celebrated by Mathematics Department.

Soorya Sugathan delivered a speech on the importance of Nature conservation. She included the history, theme, pollution, affects, conservation in her speech.

NATIONAL PARENT'S DAY

 

REPORT OF SOCIAL SCIENCE PROGRAMME

The students of the Social Science optional at Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education organised a meaningful programme in observance of National Parents' Day on 27th July 2025 during the morning assembly. The aim of the programme was to recognise and appreciate the unconditional love, sacrifices, and lifelong support offered by parents in shaping the character and future of their children.

The highlight of the event was a heartfelt speech delivered by Ms. Chandana S S, a student of the Social Science optional. In her speech, she spoke about the significance of parents in every individual's life, describing them as the pillars of emotional strength, moral guidance, and constant encouragement. She reflected on the selfless efforts of parents in nurturing their children and instilling strong values, often without expecting anything in return. Her words were filled with gratitude, admiration, and deep emotional connection, which touched the hearts of everyone present.

Following the speech, a beautiful poem was recited by another student, expressing love and respect towards parents. The audience was then invited to observe a moment of silent reflection, allowing each person to quietly honour the role of

their own parents in their lives.

The programme was conducted in a respectful and emotionally rich atmosphere, creating a sense of warmth and gratitude among the participants. Teachers appreciated the thoughtful organisation of the event, and students expressed that it helped them realise the importance of showing love and respect to their everyday. The event concluded with positive feedback from both faculty and students.

Tributes to the Missile Man of India on his Death Anniversary

KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS

 Kargil Vijay Diwas (lit. 'Kargil Victory Day') is celebrated every year on 26 of July in India, to observe India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War for ousting Pakistani Forces from their occupied positions on the mountain tops of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh in 1999. Initially, the Pakistani army denied their involvement in the war, claiming that it was caused by the Kashmiri militants.

However documents left behind by casualties, testimony of POWs and later statements by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Army Chief of Army Staff Pervez Musharraf pointed to the involvement of the Pakistani paramilitary forces, led by General Ashraf Rashid. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War. This day is celebrated all over India and in the national capital of New Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate every force Functions are also organized all over the country to commemorate the contributions of the Indian Armed Forces.

WORLD EMBRYOLOGIST DAY

World Embryologist Day, also known as World IVF Day, is celebrated on July 25 th to commemorate the birth of Louise Brown, the first IVF baby, and to recognize the vital role of embryologists in assisted reproductive technology (ART). It highlights the advancements in reproductive medicine and the contributions of embryologists in helping couples overcome infertility.

The day raises awareness about infertility and available treatment options like

IVF, encouraging open discussions and reducing the stigma surrounding fertility issues. World Embryologist Day provides an opportunity to educate the public about the science behind IVF and the role of embryologists in creating families.
