Observance of National Mathematics Day
Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, through its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with the Mathematics Club, observed National Mathematics Day on 22 December 2025. The programme was conducted online via Google Meet at 9.00 p.m. with the aim of promoting interest, appreciation, and awareness of the importance of Mathematics in education and everyday life.
The programme began with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of National Mathematics Day, celebrated in honour of the great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, and emphasizing the role of Mathematics in developing logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and analytical ability among learners.
The session focused on creating awareness about the relevance of Mathematics in various fields such as science, technology, education, and daily decision-making. Interactive discussions encouraged students to reflect on innovative methods of teaching Mathematics, the application of mathematical concepts in real-life situations, and the importance of nurturing mathematical thinking among school students.
Active participation of students contributed to the success of the programme. The online platform provided an effective space for sharing ideas, clarifying concepts, and motivating future teachers to adopt creative and learner-centred approaches in Mathematics classrooms.
The programme was efficiently coordinated by the student coordinators Neha Jayakumar and Harsha M P, under the guidance of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, who served as the General Coordinator. The programme received valuable support from Mr. Arun U, IQAC Coordinator, and Mr. Nithinlal V, Programme Coordinator.
The observance of National Mathematics Day was informative and engaging, achieving its objectives by enhancing students’ awareness of the significance of Mathematics and reinforcing its role in holistic education.
