World Day of War Orphans
Mahe Co‑operative College of Teacher Education, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Grievance Cell, observed the World Day of War Orphans on 6 January with the objective of creating awareness among students about the plight, suffering, and psychological trauma faced by children affected by war.
The programme aimed to sensitise the student community to issues of loss, displacement, human rights, and the urgent need for compassion and social responsibility towards war-affected children across the world.
As part of the observance, an awareness display was organised highlighting the realities faced by war orphans, including loss of family, lack of basic necessities, interrupted education, and emotional distress. The visuals and messages conveyed the importance of empathy, peace, and collective responsibility in rebuilding the lives of children affected by armed conflicts. The theme of the programme emphasised hope, humanity, and the need to build a better and more peaceful tomorrow.
The programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal, MCCTE, who served as the General Co-ordinator. The event was effectively coordinated by Mr. Arun U, Assistant Professor, MCCTE, as the IQAC Co-ordinator, and Mrs. Padmalekha V.M., Assistant Professor, MCCTE, as the Grievance Cell Co-ordinator.
Student coordinators Ms. Linsha R and Ms. Nandana Rajeevan actively contributed to the organisation and smooth conduct of the programme. Students participated with keen interest and reflected on the humanitarian dimensions of war and the responsibility of individuals and institutions in promoting peace and child welfare.
The observance of the World Day of War Orphans proved to be meaningful and impactful, fostering empathy, social awareness, and moral responsibility among the students, in alignment with the institution’s commitment to value-based education and social justice.
