The Science Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Science Debate Competition on 13th December 2023 at 10:30 AM. The programme aimed to enhance critical thinking, promote scientific awareness, and encourage students to engage in analytical discussions on contemporary scientific issues.

The event began with a welcome address, followed by an introduction to the theme and rules of the debate. Students were reminded of the importance of scientific temper, evidence-based reasoning, and respectful discourse.

1. Debate Theme

Participants debated on the topic:
“The Impact of Technology on Human Life: Boon or Bane?”
(You may replace this with the actual topic if needed.)

The topic encouraged students to explore both the advantages and challenges posed by modern scientific and technological advancements.

2. Participant Presentations

Students presented well-researched arguments supported by scientific facts, real-life examples, and logical reasoning.

  • The affirmative side highlighted the benefits of technology in healthcare, communication, education, and scientific progress.

  • The opposing side discussed concerns such as environmental degradation, overdependence on devices, data privacy issues, and the impact on mental health.

3. Rebuttal and Interaction

The rebuttal round allowed students to counter opposing arguments, strengthening the engagement and depth of discussion. Participants demonstrated confidence, clarity, and strong analytical skills.

4. Judging Criteria

Speakers were evaluated based on:

  • Content accuracy and relevance

  • Organization of ideas

  • Delivery and presentation skills

  • Ability to refute arguments

  • Overall clarity and impact

Judges appreciated the students’ preparation, logical thinking, and effective communication.

5. Learning Outcomes
