WORD OF THE DAY ACTIVITY
Organized by the English Club, MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education
Date: 18 July 2025
Time: 11:00 AM
The English Club of MAHE Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe conducted a Word of the Day activity on 18th July 2025 at 11:00 AM with the objective of enhancing students’ vocabulary, language awareness, and daily engagement with the English language. The programme aimed to promote continuous language learning in a simple, effective, and interesting manner.
The activity began with a brief introduction on the importance of vocabulary development in improving communication skills, reading comprehension, and confidence in language use. The selected “Word of the Day” was introduced to the students along with its meaning, pronunciation, part of speech, synonyms, antonyms, and proper usage in sentences.
Students actively participated by framing their own sentences using the word and sharing them with the class. This interactive approach helped reinforce understanding and encouraged students to apply the new word in real-life communication. Faculty coordinators guided the students, corrected pronunciation where necessary, and clarified doubts related to usage.
The activity created a positive learning atmosphere and motivated students to be more attentive to language usage. Students expressed that learning a new word daily helped them improve their vocabulary and boosted their confidence in speaking and writing.
The programme concluded with appreciation from the coordinators, who encouraged students to continue practising new words regularly and to make vocabulary building a daily habit. The Word of the Day activity was a simple yet highly effective initiative, reflecting the English Club’s commitment to promoting language proficiency, confidence, and continuous learning among students.
