Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education organized Vayanolsavam (Reading Week) 2021 from 19 June to 25 June 2021 in connection with National Reading Day, commemorating the memory of P. N. Panicker, the father of the Library Movement in Kerala. The programme aimed to promote the habit of reading among students and to highlight the importance of knowledge and lifelong learning.

The week-long celebration included a variety of online programmes, discussions, and book presentations conducted through virtual platforms. The inaugural session was conducted on June 19, with Siddharth P, Vidyarthi Union Chairman, delivering the welcome address. The programme was presided over by Dr. Sreelatha K, Principal of MCCTE, and Dr. K. P. Mohanan, Secretary of Kerala Sahitya Akademi, delivered the keynote address. Other speakers included Rinoj N K, Assistant Professor, Kerala University, E. V. Santhosh Kumar, Lecturer at DIET Kannur, Mimudas A. M, Assistant Professor at Mattannur College, Anushree V, Vidyarthi Union General Secretary, and Indulekha P. T, College Department.

As part of the Reading Week celebrations, several programmes were organized to encourage students to develop reading habits. A book discussion session on Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty was conducted, along with discussions on the book “Utharendiyude Kailas Manasasarovar Yathra” by M. K. Ramachandran. Students actively participated in presentations, discussions, and reflections on the value of reading in personal and intellectual development.

The programmes emphasized the importance of books in shaping knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity among future teachers. The event successfully created enthusiasm for reading and inspired students to cultivate the habit of regular reading.

The Reading Week celebration concluded on June 25, leaving students with a renewed appreciation for literature, learning, and the transformative power of reading. 📚

 Brain Tumor Day Awareness Programme

The Biological Science Association “EVREN” of Mahe Co-operative College of Teacher Education, Mahe, organized an awareness programme in observance of Brain Tumor Day. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about brain tumors, their causes, symptoms, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

As part of the programme, a talk was delivered by Shanimа, who explained various aspects related to brain tumors. The session highlighted the medical condition, possible risk factors, common symptoms, and the importance of timely medical attention. The speaker also emphasized the need for spreading awareness in society to help people recognize early warning signs and seek proper medical care.

The programme helped students understand the seriousness of neurological disorders and the importance of health awareness. It also encouraged future teachers to play an active role in spreading health education and supporting awareness initiatives within the community.

The programme highlighted the significance of food safety in maintaining good health and preventing foodborne diseases. Students were sensitized to the importance of proper food handling, storage, and hygiene in everyday life. The event emphasized that ensuring food safety is a shared responsibility among producers, suppliers, and consumers.

During the programme, discussions were held on topics such as contamination of food, safe preparation methods, and the importance of maintaining cleanliness in kitchens and food preparation areas. The programme also stressed the need for awareness about nutritional value and healthy eating habits.
